A1200 PCMCIA NIC causing slowdown even with cardpatch?!
« on: July 28, 2009, 06:49:11 PM »
Hi #?,

I got rid of my Xsurf ethernet board in my A1200 for an Orinoco Gold (lucent) PCMCIA Wifi NIC, however I'm having some trouble in OS 3.9.

I'm using the cardreset and cardpatch patches from aminet, cardpatch in particular states:

"Slow bug:

If any program is run in the address space of $xxA00000 through $xxA3FFFF
(where xx is any address of a CPU address bus on any turbo board),
then GAYLE asserts the _CC_REG signal into the PCMCIA slot (pin 61).
GAYLE does it regardless of the A24-A31 lines of the address bus and the
_AS signal of the CPU. If a 16-bit PC Card is plugged in the PCMCIA slot
then this card, in reply to the _CC_REG signal, drives the WP/_IOIS16 line
to a low level ("write protect" line - pin 33 of the PCMCIA slot) and
GAYLE generates a level 2 interrupt."

So, I'm using Miami Deluxe with the card.. after starting miami and enabling the connection, always a few minutes later (randomly, it doesn't happen always at the same time), the system gets really slow...  Apparently cardpatch is suposed to fix this problem but it doesn't seem to work on my A1200T. I tried another PCMCIA card (ethernet, 3 com with another driver), it works, but I get the same behavior after a few minutes... this doesn't happen in OS4 though.

In order to fix the problem I have to quit miami, and then I have to restart it...

Could the hardware patch fix the problem? Isn't the cardpatch/cardreset combo suposed to fix the issue via software only?

Suggestions please...

Cheers,

What version of card.resource are you using? How much RAM is available to OS3.9?
