Amiga 3000 battery question
« on: December 08, 2008, 04:25:39 PM »
I have an Amiga 3000D with a non leaking working battery from the former owner. Is it still advisable to remove it, or would it be more beneficial to leave it on the motherboard. Thanks.

you should have some type of battery on A3000. I'd suggest coin type, (re-chargeable if you can find, or diode hack:LithBatt.lha)
Better sorry than worry.

At the very least, I'd remove it.  Those old batteries are a time bomb.  It may not have failed YET, but YET is the key word.  Why wait for trouble?

Definitely get it off ASAP and clean the area thoroughly (the leakage might not be visible yet).

I'd remove it.  If the machine hasn't been used a bunch, your use may push the battery over it's limit and cause a leak.  Given the age it is ripe for failure.

I have an A3000D, I removed the battery and I can't tell you of any problems with the machine beyond having to manually set the clock if I want to timestamp files.

Remove it before it leaks, and replace with coin style battery
