Amiga 2000 Compatibility problem.
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:14:26 AM »
Hello everybody, I have a questiona and I am sure sombody has the answer. I have an Amiga 2000 w Commodore 68030 Accelerator and 3.1 roms. I noticed that some games, regardless of whether I choose 6800 or 68030 mode, just will not run. One game for example is called "out of this world".  No matter what I do, it will not work. Is this due to the KS 3.1 Rom I am using or is it the Accelerator card causing the problem.  Thanks.

Barney

Could be either casing the problem. Try checking out WHDLoad. It mainly aims at HD installing on AGA machines, but most should work on ECS too.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Remember that some A2000s are OCS and some are ECS.  That might pose a problem.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Hi,
The game came out in 91 so it probably needs 2.1 or 1.3 rom.  That's a guess. If I can find it I will try it on my A2000 on 2.1. I also have a 030 installed so if it works it will narrow it down.

It works on ether ECS or OCS and I don't have it...  )0:

My guess is that it is the ROM. If it came out early '91 It could even require 1.3.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Yes I can. I can confirm it works fine on a ECS 2000HD with 030 running on 2.1 ROM.

I can also confirm what I now remember....  A very frustrating game.  |o:

The game has been played on my machines, all have 3.1 ROMs, except for the A1000 (so far...)
The ROMs on the accelerator you are using could be an issue however...
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

Very interesting. I used to play this game all the time on my Amiga 1000 with only 512K and it worked fine. It won't work at all with my A2000. I think it might be the Accelerator card since others here have been able to play it fine with KS3.1. I was about to buy a rom switcher but maybe this won't be able to rectify my problem.

Likely the rom...  I bought the rom switcher so i can have kickrom 3.1 and 1.3 (for old games).  http://amigamaniac.com/ has some nice working switchers...

Hi,

see http://bboah.com/cgi-bin/showhardware_en.cgi?HARDID=165

"The A2630 has a fall-back mode where the card can be switched to using the 68000, primarily for compatibility with old and broken software. This function may only be available on some cards, as the jumper (J304) to enable it appears to have different functions, depending on the revision of the card."

Also

I've noticed my GVP Jaws MKII 030/50Mhz will run old games on my A1200 if I disable Cache and set to Original Chipset in Early Boot Screen.

Give that a try when you boot up into 3.1 ROMs ?
