Definitive list of LCD monitors that will work with an Amiga?
« on: November 27, 2008, 09:42:50 PM »
Hi,

I'm sure this subject has been flogged to death, so apologies if I'm annoying anyone! :-)

But, in all of my wading through these and other forums, I've yet to find a definitive list of LCD / TFT monitors that will successfully work with most (all?) of the Amiga screen modes.

At the moment I can't afford an Indivision and there are a lot of cheap LCD screens floating about...

I know that the LG M1721A & M1921A are supposed to be good, but they are impossible to find in Australia, as are any LCD tellys with proper RGB SCART input!

If anyone could offer comments or mention if they have a particular model that with display the Amigas screen-modes, that would be great!

Cheers,

Mike.

Hiya Mike,

Before I got an Indivision I was using a VGA 'TV Box' off eBay.  These cheap ($30) boxes of tricks will convert a composite signal into something any monitor can display.  The quality won't be great because it's using composite but it's still an option.  You can even add an SVideo adapter to your Miggy and then feed that into the VGA box for a better signal.

For WB use you might even get away with a RGB-VGA connector if you use the VGA Only + Multisync drivers together.

Hi there,

I've managed to locate a nice 19" LCD monitor (Fujitsu) which actually has S-Video and composite inputs for around $AU150, which I think sounds okay:

Fujitsu 19"

But like you say, it's never going to be as good as an indivison, or proper RGB connection...

By the way; well done on teh sale of your A1200 - 700 buckeroonies can't be sneezed at!

Cheers,

Mike.

Yep that looks like a great little monitor for a 1200....pity it's not white though ;)

I think 19" is the biggest you'll want to go to and 4:3 is the best aspect ratio.   CRT will always give you a better picture than LCD because of the physical pixel count vs scan-lines (scalling) but they are sooo much more practical.

Yep my Miggy sold for a good amount, look out for another one in about 3 weeks ;)
