A4000 Monitor Solution
« on: November 20, 2008, 04:17:09 AM »
Hello All,

I just picked up my first 4000. Over the years I have owned several Amiga's but didn't touch them for over 10 years until I pulled my 3000T out of storage earlier this year. Unfortunately my parents threw the majority of my gear away including several 1084s monitors :( With the holidays aproaching I don't have a ton of money to spend on this but I am willing to spend some. I just want to make sure I am looking for right stuff. I am open for suggestions.

p.s. I have a cyberstormPPC, Mediator, and voodoo3 card currently in the 3000T. Although I am not sure the mediator will fit in the 4000D as I see they offer a different model for the tower.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
Amiga 4000D Cyberstorm PPC 150Mhz, 68060 50 Mhz, 128Meg Ram, IndivisionAGA, Deneb USB Controller, Zorram 256, Os3.9/Os4.0 Classic
Amiga 3000T Warp Engine 4040, Elbox FastATA Controller, Progressive Perpherals ProRam3000 64Meg, Mediator, VoodooIII, Os3.9

depends what you wanna view, 1084s or cheap LCD TV will be fine for basic resolutions.
multiscans like the microvitec 1438, will handle all PAL/NTSC and VGA alike AGA modes.
plus if you have a GFX card, you can use an LCD tv with VGA in from the GFX card, and standard in from the RGB connector... or multi screen it, with a cheap LCD monitor on the GFx card, and LCD TV on the RGB...

A500, A600, A1200x3, A2000, A3000, A4000 & a CD32.
and probably just like the rest of you, crates full of related "treasure" for the above XD

I'm not sure how many of those Microvitec monitors made it across the pond!  I've never seen one, and a quick check of EBay came up empty.  They list a 140s at the Microtec website which is available, but no price shown.

I think Jens Indivision scandoubler is likely the best (and cheapest) solution if you don't have a compatible monitor.

LCD TVs will degrade AGA colours quality.

1084s/TVs won't allow you to use non-flicker multiscan modes.

Get an A4000 scandoubler, connect any monitor you want and forget about monitor problems.

I will keep my eye out for a scan doubler. I have a question. A mediator and voodoo card isn't going to be able to display most games? Also is there still going to be a lot of flickering with a mediator?

Unfortunately not, amiga native screens are completely unaffected by the mediator/voodoo.

Scandoublers pop up on ebay, you may also want to post a wanted ad here or on www.amibay.com. Some video cards like the Picasso IV have a built-in scandoubler, the Cybervision 64 has a passthrough so you can route native video (presumably from a scandoubler) to the same monitor. Also, there will eventually be an A4000 version of the Indivision A1200 scandoubler (a fantastic piece of hardware).

Ok.. This maybe a little far fetched but how about a db23-vga adapter vga-dvi adapter to Upconvert DVD player to LCD TV

@don27dog

I'll avoid the tech aspects of this and just say, don't think it will work because the LCD can't interpret the standard Amiga output signal.  You won't be able to view standard Amiga screens on the LCD and nothing in your connection chain does a conversion to "double" the scan lines.

You've asked earlier about what scandoubler you should be looking for.  Part of being an Amiga owner seems to be having patience.  I'd keep my 1084 for a bit and wait for Jens to release the A4000 version of his Indivision.  This would hook up to your LCD nicely.  I'm afraid most of the Amiga scandoublers I've tried didn't work with my Samsung LCD.

Patience...the proper product appears to be on the way!
