Amiga emulator - Best to run untill os4.
« on: September 01, 2003, 03:19:50 PM »
chaps. my amiga is crap. Its bog standard a1200 and its getting on my nerves to be honest lol waiting for os4 and even seeing screenshots of os3.9 makes my os 3.1 look so old. Anyway on to my question. On my PC, which amiga emulator would be the best to run? My PC Spec is quite low unfortunatly, but i am completley prepared to loose my os and install an amiga emulator if one exists.

My spec.

K6-2 450mhz
400mb pc133 SD ram
6gb hdd
Nvidia gforce 4 gfx card
SB64 audio

Cheers chaps :-)

Kevin :-)

Well there is really only one choice.....

WinUAE  :-x

But you might find out that the JIT makes prob on K6s (it sureley did on my K6/3),
which would force you to use a non-JITed version.

Speed should be :

~100mhz 68040 with JIT
~33mhz 68030 without JIT.

It's just a Windows program. But it can be run fullscreen, then it's not too bad ;-)

Well there is a reason why it's called WINUAE  :-P

Yes you will need Windows for it.

You will also need to transfer the Kickrom and the system files from your miggy.

You could try Amithlon. Contrarily to what the box says it runs correctly with my k6-2@550...

You'll need an updated kernel for G-Force4 support.

It comes with all ROM images (so you don't have to copy them across, and if you've got 3.0 on the A1200 you won't be able to use OS3.5+) and workbench disk images, as well as lots of emulators and some pre-set environments and Amiga-PC transfer tools.

BTW Amithlon is what you'd probably want, but its unfortunately illegal to buy it now :-(

Amiga Forever IS WinUAE - it just comes bundled with an easy-to-use installer and some legit, licensed Kickstart ROM images as well as a pre-configured Workbench 3.x setup - It's good value for money if you don't have access to legal Amiga ROMs and/or you don't want to get too technical and just want an Amiga emulation that works right out-of-the-box. The online version is slightly cheaper than the CDROM version but the CD has extra Kickstart ROMS (including CD32 and CDTV) as well as interviews and an MPEG of Dave Haynie's infamous "Deathbed Vigil" video.

I could rant after your response if I'm allowed to.  :-P

But, hey, I have 13 Amigas and almost all of them work in good order.  But, I believe that accelerator in one A2000 is beginning to die.  (Damn, PAL chips, for those who are electronics literate!)  Replacing HDs are no problems, just need an adaptor to convert from SCA to SCSI. I found 9GB drives for $20!
 :-)

Currently I have my 4000T on a LAN with a pc (*cough* *cough*) driving the DSL modem ATM.  The 4000 from time to time I turn on with LAN and program some more useful tools I want to use.

You only have 13 Amigas?

I thought you were an Amiga fan - real Amiga fans have at least 20.  I spoke to a guy on IRC a few weeks ago who had over 60 Amigas - all working! Including a fully boxed A1000 (one of the first ever made).
