So it's that time of year again when I power up 2 or 3 computers a day out of storage. Today it was a Commodore PET 2001 (with chiclet KB) and a Commodore PC 10-III. The PET continues to soldier on regardless, nothing can stop the old girl! The PC10 is a different story. I bumped into this in a garage when collecting an auction win off ebay last year. It's still in original box/polys and unused, it still has the tape over the mouse port! You've heard it before but this one *is* like new. Anyhow, I was playing around with a spreadsheet and happened to notice the date was set to 2065. Now I know this computer's slow but good grief not that slow, besides, my coffee was still warm, no pulling the wool over Phil's eyes that easily. This is where that sinking feeling comes in...I remembered I'd forgotten to remove the battery when I put it in storage last year. Nooooo! How many more times do I have to learn my lesson?
Quicker than a quick thing I had my screwdriver out and pulled the PC10 apart...yep; the battery did the dirty. There's damage to the board underneath the battery about half the size of the battery. Snip snip, wiggle wiggle, bin. I'm all out of isopropyl alcohol right now so it's a trip to Maplin tomorrow before I can apply the TLC.
That's all I wanted to say, I feel better now I got it off my chest - as you were.
