Tweaked my A3000D
« on: October 26, 2008, 02:44:40 AM »
After several years of just having a PicassoII and a WarpEngine, my A3000D went through some minor tweaking this weekend:
> Upgraded to SuperBuster-11.
> Installed a Fastlane ZIII with 64 megs of ram, adding to the WarpEngine's 64MB, bringing the total to 128MB. Too bad an A4000 WarpEngine doesn't fit, because then the FastLane would be moot. The scsi header on the WarpEngine for some reason hadn't worked the number of times I tried to make it function. Will be testing the SCSI II headers of both the FastLane and WarpEngine. Can never have too many SCSI headers eh? Maybe the latest Buster will rectify that problem.
> Upgraded the PicassoII to a PicassoIV. Shazam! Easy install after actually following the instructions...
> Next component will be the AD516, once I get an external SCSI box for an audio drive and a CD-RW.
> Moddification of the PS/floppy tray is needed to get better air flow to the WarpEngine.

Nice! Where did you scrounge up the Buster 11? Finding them is very discouraging. Software Hut only seems to have them when I'm short of cash.  :-)
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

For the Warp Engine's SCSI to work you need the INT2 mod.

The WarpEngine uses its own workaround instead of the INT2 mod. There is a jumper wire that you need to clip onto pin 21 of CIA U350. I think it performs the same function as the INT2 mod.

I found that when I first installed my WarpEngine that the SCSI controller wouldn't work either. The A3000 wouldn't even boot if the WE SCSI was connected. After a lot of heartache I found that the WarpEngine did not like the hard drive that I was using. It was an old Quantum SCSI I drive. I found an IBM SCSI II drive and it worked fine.
