« on: August 21, 2008, 05:42:00 PM »
Hi all,

For sale here is a brand NEW 500W ATX PSU, bundled with one of my ATX to Amiga adapter cables (you choose which one). It comes with stick-on rubber feet, which I can attach or aupply loose.

Pricing Breakdown

*500W ATX PSU - AUD$20

Adapter Cables

*ATX to Amiga adapter cable for A500/600/1200 - AUD$15
*ATX to Amiga adapter cable for A3000D & A4000D - AUD$25 & AUD$20
*CD32 - AUD$12
*BSC/AlfaData AlfaPower A500 IDE, or GVP SCSI A500 HD controllers - AUD$15

The above cable prices include cable length up to 1m/3ft. You are more than welcome to specify a custom length. If it's any shorter than 1m/3ft, same price. If it's any longer, I'll have to get out the calculator!

If you would like to see a photo of the PSU etc, visit AmiBay

Oh, and any products that I make come with a lifetime warranty. Just send it back to me if it needs repair. Also, our relationship doesn't end after you hand over the money. I will always be willing to answer any e-mail and help out where I can :-)

500W? Isn't that a bit excessive? With such a PSU there's probably more power lost with the PSU itself than the amiga setup uses.

Assuming 80% efficiency that means 100W lost.

Its all about marketing.  ;-)

Even my big A4000T draws less than 80 watts.

@DJBase & all

You are partly right :-) The "Monster" part of the title was only added as I suppose it is eye catching etc. I have removed that word, as it is superfluous, and I don't want to be seen as pushing gimmicks etc.

Why a 500W PSU? I bought a box of 10 units, as they were the cheapest I could find at that time. That's the only reason I am selling 500W, and not say, 150W. Clearly, 500W is overkill, but it leaves you plenty of room to expand, such a tower project.

I am running a 450W PSU with my A500. Again, I only purchased that as it was the cheapest *new* ATX PSU available at that time. My A500 only has trapdoor RAM, and a GVP SCSI HD controller with RAM - which is powered externally from the ATX PSU via one of the 4 pin female molex power plugs, with a DIN plug at the other end.

The reason I replaced my A500 brick PSU? I was getting flaky operation. Since I have been using the modern ATX PSU, my A500 has been rock solid :-D

*Edit* Text removed out of respect for Piru ;-)

In this case I'd say I'm offended by a PSU that throws away money (and causes extra electicity usage for no reason whatsoever).

@Piru

You have a point there ;-) It may be overkill for 99-99.99% of Amiga's out there. But that means it's perfect for the 1-0.01% of super-towered Amiga's that take up a whole room, ENIAC style :-P

My apologies for any comment(s) that may have irritated or offended you.

@all

This bundle is aimed more at fellow Australians, as it would be quite expensive to post overseas, due to the  weight. I have ATX to Amiga adapter cables for international buyers - postage/shipping via air mail for these is not expensive ;-)
