Which CF card for PCMCIA transfers to A600?
« on: September 10, 2008, 08:39:23 PM »
Hi,

It's been a while since I used my 64MB Compact Flash card and PCMCIA adaptor to transfer files between my PC and A600. I have just tried to use it and it looks like the CF card is dead (not registering on PC or A600). So I guess I need a new one.

Just wondering if there are any limitations on which CF cards are actually usable on the A600??? Are there any size restrictions? Seen as the PCMCIA port is only 16bit, can I only use 64MB flash carts, or something (2^16) ?

Or I was thinking that an SD > PCMCIA adaptor would be better these days...if one exists (haven't checked yet). Is anyone using SD cards?

Any tips from experience before I purchase appretiated!!

You can use ANY size of CF card (with the right software)

Recommendation: LeisureStore 2Gig CF card

I've seen mixed results on SD adapters connected directly to IDE controllers, dunno about PCMCIA.

Since you have an A600 with proper ROM (PCMCIA works, so I deduct you have kickstart 37300, 350 or even 40.063), expect any PCMCIA card (up to 4Gb) to work as storage with the slot.:-)
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I've been using a no-brand el cheapo PCMCIA SD-reader with my A600, and it works like a charm. There might ofcourse be differences between readers, but I'd guess most of them work.
