Video Toaster Software - Most Recent?
« on: August 09, 2008, 12:53:27 AM »
What is the most recent version of the software for the Video Toaster/Flyer?  I see different versions for sale on E-Bay all the time and wondered what was the latest version.  Thanks,

The last version for Amiga is 4.3
I just bought a copy from Newtek. $19.95 for the CD, another $19.95 for the install floppy. You need both. Kinda steep for a floppy, but balanced by the cheap price of the CD I guess, for a total of $39.90 for the pair.

Do you have a Flyer? Some verions of the Flyer only work correctly with 4.3. Other Flyers work with any version of 4.x., according to Newtek. To be safe it's best to have 4.3. The used Flyer I bought did not work with the 4.1 version I already had.

Oh, I forgot.... of course you need an Amiga with a CD player to load these CD versions. If you only have a Toaster, don't have a Flyer to worry about, and no CD, then you can use any floppy based version. 2.x or 3.x. As far as I know Newtek does not sell the floppy version any more though.

As an aside, has anyone of the thousands that downloaded the OpenVideoToaster source-code actually done anything with it?

Ehh, that's expensive for a CD too, if you're talking media prices. If you're talking about the licensing prices then it's worth what the market will pay regardless of the disc it ships on.

Ahhh, memories of priming an A2000/Toaster system with all forty three (or was it forty five?!) floppies of Video Toaster software.

It was never the second or third disc that went bad, borking up the whole install.  It was always disc 38 or 41. Grrr!  It was better to spend the time fixing another Amiga and just take the time to periodically feed new floppies into the one being Toasterized.

Thankfully, Newtek no longer sells floppies, you have to have a CD drive :-)
