Using CAT:
« on: July 26, 2008, 08:37:11 PM »
Sorry to resurrect an old post but I was looking for a solution to my problem and this post brings up the problem I'm having.

I recently got the Catweasel MK4 PCI and I'm running it under WinXP 32 bit. I'm also using AmigaForever 2008 and AmigaOS 3.9. I also tried OS 3.1. I installed the latest drivers from CWMK42500.

I can't get the floppy to read under Winuae. I've added multidisk.device to libs: and even devs:. I started by creating a CAT and CAT.INFO from the PCO and PCO.INFO and putting :

Device = multidisk.device
Unit = 1
Flags = 0
Surfaces = 2
BlocksPerTrack = 11
Reserved = 2
mask = 0x7ffffffc
MaxTransfer = 0x00200000
Interleave = 0
LowCyl = 0
HighCyl = 79
Buffers = 5
BufMemType = 0
StackSize = 4096
Priority = 5
GlobVec = -1

When I enter CAT: from CLI it reads the disk and gives a NON DOS disk error. I've tried multiple disks with the same problem. They are able to be read on a real amiga. The imagetool works from windows and I can create an .adf.

I'm using a PC drive and have it connected to the black connector on the catweasel and the drive is connected to the end of the 3 connector cable (the connector with the twisted cable).

I then tried the old skool way and created a mountlist and manually mount CAT: from CLI with the same result.

Any help trying to get Winuae to mount and read disks would be appreciated.

It might be the brand of PC drive you have.  Have you tried a different PC floppy drive?

I guess I could buy a new one and try it, but, I'm not sure if that's the problem since imagetool works but AmigaOS in Winuae does not.

Also these are regular uncopyprotected disks.

I had some trouble
installing mine. It was mostly a cable problem.

Did you use the flat cable supplied with the Catweasel? I too ran into a situation where I could use the Imagetool but not the CAT: amiga drive.

Mine works now, but it's very slow in the Amiga emulator.

I've purchased two new floppy drives from different manufacturers and will test them when I get around to it.

Yea, that's actually the thread I was trying to reply to.

I've connected the drive using the 3 connector cable on either the end or middle connector and connected to the black connector on the catweasel. Imagetool works but can't mount in AmigaOS.

I tried the pass-thru approach. Connecting the cable from the MB to the black connector on the catweasel and then catweasel to the drive using the 2 connector cable. Windows doesn't recognize the drive and the 'floppy catweasel' device doesn't show in the device manager. Won't mount in AmigaOS.

I've tried several cables, all brand new, never used.

I've also tried an Amiga drive I got from Amigakit, connecting it to the catweasel black connector and the 3 connector cable. Both Imagetool and AmigaOS can't read the disks.

I'm beginning to think I have a bad catweasel card.  :madashell:

Jens specifically states in the docs that the Catweasle does not work with Amiga floppy drives.  With all the different cable combinations and trying the Amiga floppy drive, perhaps you have inadvertently damaged your Catweasle card?

My guess is that it is a driver installation problem.  I had some trouble installing the drivers on my XP Pro tower that was intermittent and caused me to have to re-install the drivers many times. I finally removed the card because I needed the slot for something else, but plan to install it in a dedicated Amiga emulation & dual boot Linux box later.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Well I don't know where he states that because the little manual I got doesn't say that. The same short manual is  here.

And the readme in the latest drivers, CWMK42500.zip, doesn't say that.

The PC drive is a Sony, which he does state, is supposed to work.

Just giving an update. I had an ALPS floppy drive, not a Sony as I thought. I got a Mitsumi and it works.

Thanks!
