Zorro SCSI controller
« on: July 25, 2008, 06:01:28 PM »
I have a trumpcard for my A500. And i have severe problems getting it to use newer disks. And all the information i can find points towards a limit of maximum 250mb disks. the disk i am trying is 300 (something) mb.
However.
The trumpcard is basically just a zorro bridge. meaning i could use any type of zorro scsi controller. supposed it fits inside the case.

Anyone having a zorro scsi (IDE will also do just fine) controller they are willing to part with?

Or a SCSI disk smaller than 250mb. (a quantum is preferred since there is drive tables for quantum drives included in the disk setup tools.)?

I think the best you can do is attach a decent full-size controller instead a small card.

The case won't fit? And so? Better make another case and use a controller who adds RAM to the system, like A2091 or a GVP HC8+.

I have 32MB of ram on the derringer, so ram is not an issue...
I just need a decent controller.
And i am beginning to consider this

SCSI will serve you better. IDE is very CPU intensive....
Getting 0lder is Mandatory..... Growing up is an option.

Well. that is not really any concern, it is only going to be used for retro gaming. And with a 030 @50mhz it is more than enough for its purpose.

The A1200 is used for more serious business...

Yes, I have an ADSCSI card lying around.
Last time I tried it (about one year ago) it was O.K.

Did I get you right - you want to fit it to an A500?
Do you have an Zorro bus board for your A500 (I still have a new and unused Micronik Zorro bus board for A500 (from Micronik's A500 tower conversion kit) plus keyboard adaptor lying around as well...)?
All the best,

@Dandy

Hmm... tempting.. But i do not have any towers for A500.
I do have the trumpcard and it basically provides me with two zorro slots...
The original controller is very twitchy about disks. and cannot use disks larger than 250mb...
And the only "small" scsi disk i have is 300 something mb...

What ADSCSI do you have? full length zorro or half length?

A friend of mine tells me his SCSI controller not accept any SCSI HD on the 1Gb~10Gb range.

Oddly enough, he toss a 73Gb(!) on the chain (for termination, only) and the HD works!!!

Hmm... time to drag a big HD from the street... :-D
