Georg Braun A1000 project artist's needed
« on: July 05, 2008, 11:14:00 PM »
Georg Braun is a hardware genius, but might not be the most talented artist the Amiga has seen over the years.

I suggest that some of the talented Amiga artists here that are also interested in the currently running GB A1000 project build, take Georg's screen shot and modify it to make it something as stunning and remarkable as Georg's hardware designs.

It would be great to somehow put this reworked design into the flashrom on the GB A1000 and have it appear during bootup on our newly completed project boards.  It would also be great to have a Workbench wallpaper with a GB A1000 theme of some kind to set it apart from other machines.

I am not a talented pixel pusher myself, but hope that some of you who are will take up this idea and create something really special to celebrate our hardware achievement when we complete the soldering of our very own GB A1000's.

What do the rest of you think?  Fester, could you work up a spot for submissions on your site and allow us to vote on our favorites?

How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I will consult with my eldest son who is studying in computer digital art.  I have seen some of his work and it looks pretty decent.  Did you just want a rework of Georg's bootup screen or did you want something different?  I'm sure he could do a wallpaper as well.

If someone wants to create new graphics, such as for the gba1000.info site, I'd be glad to put them up and find out what people prefer. Any contribution to the page is really appreciated.

But then, I do like Georg's boot screen. It looks retro.

@Fester,

I know Georg's screen is retro, but does retro have to look so primitive, simple and jaggy?  We are creating our very own UPDATED retro Amiga's with this project and some of us might want something a little better looking than what Georg has come up with, and some will want to stay with his original.  No need to change your site graphics, I was just interested in a new boot screen and wallpaper for my GB A1000 when I am finished putting it together.

@Firedawg,

I personally would like an updated version of Georg's work, perhaps with some flashy additions, and I would also like a great looking wallpaper just to use on my GB A1000 that also gives some credit or reference to Georg Braun as the creator of such a great reinvention of the A1000, my favorite computer and best looking case design of all Amiga computers.

Thanks

@amigadave

What screenshot?

@Fester

That disclaimer on your site by GB is pretty harsh. Has he been getting lots of grief from people?

@weirdami:

Yes Georg got a lot of e-mails from people asking him whether he could solder their boards for them (and similar kind of e-mails).

That's what I'm told. I'm trying to put what the community wants on there as much as I can.

the harsh words are explicitly intended.
the future will show how successful people are with building up their boards. in case the success rate is UNEXPECTED high, the disclaimer could be changed to a more friendly content.

@amigadave: I like Fester's approach to first collect some ideas for later kickstart build, but I think it is too early to talk about a rom-reprogramming. all involved people will have lots of other problems than just the "simple" retro boot-screen.

I need to add that Georg's boot screen has been developed while he designed a GBA1000 graphics card and the boot screen is animated and that does not look simple to me :-D.

my personal opinion:
we should think about boot screen redesign when all involved people have seen how the real live boot screen does look like. in case some of us are still not satisfied, they can post their ideas to Fester.

Every time I see people post stuff like "I need someone to solder for me!!!!11" I think that they should just learn how themselves. I just don't get people.  :roll:

Whoa!  I wasn't asking for the whole group to reprogram their ROM's or anything else.  All I was asking for was some artwork from artists that might be able to be used if I or anyone else wanted to attempt to change the boot screen and/or choose a different Workbench wallpaper.

I think people should have choices and if any of the other builders also want to choose a different boot screen and/or Workbench wallpaper, then that will be their and my problem to figure out how to do it.

I did not know that Georg's boot screen was animated, so I may reconsider after I see it actually running.  Is there a video of it anywhere?
