« on: May 03, 2006, 03:46:31 PM »
Hi, just scored one of these 2002 beauties from work.  Ex lease. Guess what.

It Syncs to 15.76Khz. !!!!!  (o:  On VGA. Full Screen.

It wont sync the screen modes between 15.76 and 31. IE 29khz. But does 31 beautifully as well.
On an A1200 (030@33) at the moment but will test on my 500 and 2000 as well.

Just thought you might want to know.

I'm Excited !

Do you mean it will show PAL/NTSC screens when connected via vga cable to the A1200s rgb port?

According to the specs that monitor does not sync below 31.5 kHz. And it doesn't sync down to 50 Hz vertically (PAL) either...

Have only tried PAL (In Australia) I know you can select NTSC from the boot menu but why would you.  It works using the A1200 VGA adaptor on the A1200, A500 and A2000. (The A500 and A2000 have some faint vertical lines every 10th of the screen but they are hardly noticable. It works on 15Khz and 31Khz. It does not sync in between these settings.  IE. 21Khz.  :-D   Sorry for the delay in replying, been away.

Specs Smecks. Usually they only quote what is known as supported modes.  Where you don't have to change any settings for standard resolutions.  I can send you a pic of an Amiga screen with the LCDs OSD showing H: 15.6 V 49.9.  If you like..
I know what you mean though I have tried a few LCDs that have Svideo or component input but they never sync to the 15k rate via VGA.  This one does..

Hi, I have an update to this post.
There are two models of this Hitachi CML155XW LCD. (I know of)

The "V" Model manufactured up to May 2002.
and the "V Plus" manufactured from June 2002.
Only the "V" Model will sync at H 15.6 via the VGA port.
The V Plus will not.  )o:
Also the "V Plus" does not seem to have the "Scale/Centre" option to expand and centre the display which is needed to use the full screen.

So if you are lucky enough to find one of these LCDs make sure it is the "V" May 2002 and "hopefully" u can't go wrong.

Check my image post "once its vetted"

I have a Samsung 740T that will sync down to 15kHz PAL/NTSC screens (sometimes), but the picture is far from acceptable, and I was always concerned about possible damage.

It would be interesting to see how the Hitachi handles laced modes. (Though according to prad.de, it's a 6-bit TN panel, which is less than ideal IMHO. The 17" Samsungs listed on BBOA are 8-bit PVA.)

I think I timed out. Let me try again:

Yes, laced modes are crap.  But the LCD has been in use for 18 months with no issues.  Granted its mostly at 31.2k. I use Euro 72 Prod. 640 x 400. Looks nice. but it does drop okay to 15.6k for games and Octamed.

I am have a question pending for one of these :
http://www.converters.tv/products/converters/rgb_converters/41.html
I sent them the Amiga video output details, If they respond in the affirmative I'll get one and see how it goes.

But I wouldn't mind one of these beauts (If they came in a case): 19" LCD @ $620AU (15k-80k H sync)
http://www.converters.tv/products/vga_to_vga/474.html

Xmas is coming....  :-)

Oh BTW here's a PIC of the LCD on my 2000. (a bit dusty):

Any word on the CGA to VGA converter?

Would love to know if it's suitable :)

Yep, they gave me the option of 2 different units.   1 for the $133 unit. Which they say will only work with CRTs and the $197 unit (http://www.converters.tv/products/cga_to_vga/77.html) which they say will work with LCDs.  At the moment I am a waiting on an LCD / TV with VGA which should work at 15k.
Will let u know.

Sorry for being so slack on this.
I ended up getting the $133 doublescan unit from www.converters.tv
It is no good for LCD although you do get a picture colours saturated.
It works okay on CRTs (I have a 17" Philips 107S) when you tune the contrast setting. It tends to lose the setting over time. I've had it for some months now and both the monitor and unit are still working fine.
Suggest you stay clear of this unit unless desperate for VGA.
No good for interlaced or anything other than 15k.
