Toshiba Timm questions
« on: June 03, 2008, 06:02:16 PM »
Hiya folks!

I found someone looking to sell a  Toshiba Timm and I know we have a couple folks on here that have experience with it.

Couple questions:

1. Picture quality? I know it has a slightly larger dot pitch than desired, but how does it stack up?

2. Suggested desktop resolution for an AGA machine with no seperate video card?

Also, how does it handle PAL signals? Will it sync up to it?

If anyone has any pictures of it with their Amiga running on it, that would be great!

Thanks!

Dot pitch is .31mm, but this is offeset by the big screen size.

It can handle VGA, and Multisync modes.

Graphics card res is 800X600, if you can get it work zt 1024X768, the text becomes hard to read.

Pal Modes are a no go, I beleive there is some cut off at the bottom.

Handles all 15klhz modes great.

A great monitor for an NTSC amiga, sorry I sold the 2 I had.

Also works as a DTV if you have a cable box that does VGA out.
Xbox 360 runs at 800X600
Dreamcast works great all modes.

I have three of them and think they are great!  Two are my main monitors for Toaster/Flyer control screens with four 1084S monitors for Preview and Program outputs on the two editing stations and the other is my TV in my Bedroom.

It is not a great computer monitor, but is a good TV and is great for Amiga due to its ability to multisync to 15kHz and 31kHz display frequencies.  I don't know about PAL as I am in the USA.

I have not played games on it (yet), but would imagine for an A1200 AGA display the standard NTSC and 640x400 interlaced modes would work the best.

It is big and heavy, takes a huge amount of space, doesn't have headphone jack, has a 15pin RGB input, standard RCA video and stereo audio input jacks, and a coaxial TV input.

Sound is decent from the built-in speakers and the TV picture is very good.

I would not part with mine, as they are so multi-talented for Amiga work. :-D

Edit:  800x600 is the maximum resolution listed in its documentation, so I would worry about pushing it to 1024x768 if the monitor was mine.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

So, you think about $100 is a good deal for one?

Seller is looking to get $60 for it and I have to drive about 4 hours round trip to get it...so I figure about $40 in fuel.

I guess I would also need procure a 23pin to 15 pin adaptor I can I can hook it up RGB to an Amiga.

The dot pitch is actually .52 but have a look at a favourable review including a comment about PAL at
