Warm Boot

Need some help ......
I did a new install of OS 3.1 on my A3k and everything was fine.
Then I added some pathing to the user-startup.
Somewhere along the way I lost the 'Warm-Boot' function.
I didn't do anything exotic, just paths for CygnusEd etc.

Anyone have any idea why this happened ??

Correct ........
When I try to do a Warm Boot, it will boot into
a CLI (OS 1.0 ?) with no system functions.
I have to do a Cold Boot to get the system back.

Are you sure you didn't add another HDD to the system ? Or leave a floppy disk in the drive ?

Enter cd into the empty CLI window to show the current directory. What does it say, is it your boot drive or another one ?

If it boots into WB from a cold boot, but not a warm boot - I cannot see how that could be a hardware failure.

As Thomas asked, you're sure you didn't leave a FD - or another bootable media with a priority higher than the HDD in its drive?

Other than that, all I can think of is that you somehow accidentally re-mapped the key sequence ctrl/Amiga/Amiga. A good start might be to temporarily restore the changes in your startup-sequence by commenting out the newly added lines, and take it from there.

Come to think of it, I can think of one hardware failure - and that would in this case be the keyboard.

No added HDD's, or floppies left in drive .....

" CD " seems to be the only command it reconizes.
The different drive partitions appear to be there
and I can 'CD' to any one of them but if I do a 'DIR'
or 'List' I get an 'Unknown Command' back.

Sounds like you messed up the S:Startup-Sequence to me...

Try restoring it if you have a backup...

That's fine, but it seems you didn't get my idea.

If you enter cd without any paramters, it will tell you which partition you currently are on. So please enter cd without parameters imediately after a warm boot attempt and see which partition is your "ghost" boot partition. I guess it is different from your usual boot partition.

I could imagine a scenario like this:

You have two HDDs. The first one contains your normal boot parttion. The second one contains a bootable partition, too, which has a higer boot priority. On a cold start the second HDD is not recognised because it spins up too slow (a common Amiga problem). On a warm reboot both harddrives are recognised and the second one takes precedence because it has the higher boot prio. It shows an empty DOS window because it does not contain an operating system.

I found the problem ....... now how to fix it ......

After a process of elimination, I've determined its
the monitor settings.
I forgot to mention I have a CV64 card in the A3k.
If I stay with the defalt OS 3.1 install settings the
worm boot works fine but when I install the CV64 card
settings the screen is correct and Cold Boot is fine.

But a Warm Boot puts me in the Dos (sys) directory.
It boots very fast and without a startup-sequence.
I'm using the CV64 install disk, not 'Picasso'.
I've had this problem since I installed the GFX card
but it didn't concern me until now (many reasons).
Is this a problem with CV 64 or its software.
Will Picasso fix it?

I had problems with the setup of my Cyber card using the native software.

All's been fine since I used the Picasso software.

Could be worth trying.

I seem to remember hearing the Picasso software as being
slower than the CV software. Is that true ?

Some people say it is. It depends on the graphics card
used. The only one who really can answer this question
is you. Try it. If you don't like it, switch back to
CybergraphX.
BTW if you are going to try it out, be sure to remove
the CybergraphX software.
