Hard Drive Setup Ughhhh
« on: April 02, 2008, 12:09:56 PM »
Hi,

I'm very new to trying to get my 2000 setup...last time Hard Drive only showed part of the Drive that formated none of the other Partitions showed up at all  Partition is 260 megs as well as others for the 1 gig drive. So I went to try to fix it.
Under 3.1 Hard drive tools it does not see the drive, but if I use my tools GVP ( for controler card) disk I can do it.Should the  Progressive Peripherals  68040-33Mhz accelerator card be removed before install?
The prob is some how I have a drive on WB screen that shows up as A:NDOS Icon. When I setup hard drive it asks for install disk for DH0A and I have no idea  on how to remove this. something in simple detail would greatly be help full.
Thanks,
Xanaa

Not sure what you mean by install 3.1 "does not see the drive". Sounds to me like HDToolBox has its device tooltype set to scsi.device. You need to change it through the Information window to point at whichever device your disk is connected to.

I go to install drive under 3.1 and click Hard drive setup ,and select English, Partition,Range 6, Click and then I get a error "sorry error has occured Cannot Partition this hard drive" The drive is a scsi drive 1 Gig and controller is A GVP series II .
Where do I find instructions that tell work bench screen in system what to load?
Tanks,

I have a catweasel card that I'm trying to use only for  a bigger drive and Cd drive and to transfer so files. I wanted a bootable hard drive so I got a GVP card. Could this be the error that I'm having trouble with on setting up scsi drive?
Thanks,
Xanaa

sorry I can't follow what you're talking about. You should use HDInstTools to partition your drive (forget GVP software) and give gvpscsi.device as parameter (or tooltype). Check what version of GVP rom you have (version gvpscsi.device). If it's something <= 3 you better get a newer rom. Also keep in mind how much zorro2 space each of your cards occupy.
I believe in mt. Fuji

Hi,
I have tried to setup HD using 3.1, install(using hard drive setup)and 3.1 work bench disks I have tried all the values from 0-6 and nothing wants to go through. I pick partition the HD. I try to do a install to see where that takes me and that is no good it tries to write to the floppy.I have also tried using hard drive tools and I get the same thing. Should acclerator be removed while doing this? Should I have any driver for GVP card on boot disks? On my first POST I'm talking about ICONS that show on work bench screen. I realy need some help here.
Thanks,
Xanaa

Do like Countzero tells you to: you should change 'scsi.device' to something like 'gvpscsi.device'. The software you are using at this moment is looking for your harddrive on 'scsi.device' and since you don't have that device (your controller is known to your Amiga as 'gvpscsi.device', it obviously can't find it.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

Re: Setup 3.1 with Gvp controller
« Reply #8 on: April 17, 2008, 12:55:24 AM »
I had the computer up and running went to install 3.5 ( Came with comp did not buy it). System locked up.  So I tried to redo 3.1 and realy messed it up  :crazy: . I tried a  doing a partition of the hard drive using 3.1 install disk and kept getting a error say could not partition hard drive.I went to info and picked gvpscsi.device and did a save... still same error.I'm getting info here to use 3.1 disks not the GVP disks.
But I'm realy stuck here using 3.1 disk and getting no where.
Any Help?
Thanks,
Xanaa

 Baby steps:

 1- Boot the Amiga with the Workbench system disk (main disk).

 2- Hold the right mouse button and in the menu select "run";

 3- In the freshly appeared window, type "newshell" (no quotes);

 4- In the AmigaDOS prompt, type in "info". This will show all devices in your machine. There you'll find the correct device to type in the toolbox of the icon of hdtoolbox.

 5- With the edited hdtoolbox (or in the shell, type "hdtoolbox nameOfTheController.device"), try to partition the drive again. After the partition job, all the partition icons will show on the main screen with some like DH1:????? or DHx:NDOS. BTW: the system partition must be set as "bootable";

 6- Left click on a partition icon and then right click, go in icons:format;

 7- Repeat the process 6 until all partitions are formatted;

 8- After this process, reboot and put the install floppy on the drive.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
