Superscan what da...?!!
« on: August 15, 2003, 02:27:37 AM »
I stumbled a few weeks ago on an Amiga store site that had reference to the superscan. Apparently a scandoubler / FF but much more. T
IF I remember correctly the thing could receive the RGB signal from the Amiga OR  a device like a DVD player, and it also had a bunch of more functions (genlock?) I don't remember.
They've meanwhile took it from the site and answered to my request by mail that it's not for sale anymore and don't have info about it (I think, it was a few weeks ago).

Does anyone has one of these things, or has info about it? The price was around 150$( Not sure if I remember well)

Another product in wich I stumbled was the Gecko, a signal processor or something that could be used as a SD/FF also, but had much more functions, and perhaps different frequencies to chooose?? Anyway this one costed around 400$. Maybe not be Amiga specific

I think, at least the first product is an example of a thing that if more well known to people would've been much more sold at least among Amigans.

I think the "Gecko" was a amiga to VGA converter, perhaps they used it in this A1200 laptop prototype, SAY!  Now that LCD screens are so much cheaper, someone should make a laptop *sigh*  I think back in '95 Silent Paws said the Screen was 2/3 the cost of the whole machine.

A scandoubler is an interface that connects the RGB videooutput of any Amiga to a standard VGA monitor to allow all screenmodes on that monitor. It's not the same as a rgb to vga thing, because that only gives visible screens on a vga monitor if you use DoublePal or Multiscan screenmode, so screenmodes that require Pal will only give black screen. That's why a Scandoubler is so cool !! But the only back side is that it can be expensive, even 2nd hand. But on the other hand, a A1200 connected to a 19" monitor can be very cool too !!!  :-)
