Are these CD32's for real?
« on: March 17, 2008, 05:47:05 AM »
See:

CD32 on ebay 1
CD32 on ebay 2
CD32 on ebay 3

Seems like more or less the same bidder(s). Anyone have an opinion if any of them are for real? I'd really like to get a CD32...

I bought one of the "new in box" NTSC CD32s a while ago, but I think it was from a different seller. Anyway, they are most likely real considering Commodore produced lots of CD32s for the US market but was not able to sell any due to some license issue, which may well be the reason they went belly up...

AFAIK there is a huge stock of these things somewhere in China, and the seller called xiclaus_cd has been selling them for over a year now (maybe 2? don't really know).

I've heard of a few people who bought one and they are indeed New In Box, although I also heard stories that they just come in a brown cardboard box, rather than the original printed CD32 box. But still, the machines are completely new and unused.

I think you don't have too much risk if you want to buy one of these....

Does the fact that they are NTSC boxes cause any trouble with games and my own (mainly european versions) WHDLoad CD collections made for my now dead PAL CD32?

AGA is able to handle PAL and NTSC. No need to switch any chips.

I bought one sometime ago, but mine was kind of battered (although new) the box had creases and wrinkles, showing its age. Also the nameplate (CD32) was sticking out. I think these CD32's had to wait too long in the warehouse so they're definitely showing their age. Also I had quite a lot of problem with PAL discs on my NTSC TV set. They would switch to PAL and give me lots of trouble so in the end I sold it. Better you have a PAL/NTSC compatible display for this cause you don't know which game will switch to PAL or which will stick to NTSC.
