Amigas from heaven
« on: February 24, 2008, 07:12:44 PM »
I just had a complete, recently decommissioned toaster 2000, w/ toaster flyer, ycp-100, sunrise ad516, vm-2000 vscope, megachip, gvp 040 combo w/ 16mb, control tower w/ drives, cables, and dat tape drive, manuals, software, magazines, a vanilla a1200, 1 1084s, and 1 1084sd1 fall into my lap! I always wanted a 1200. ;) I'm not into the toaster stuff at all though. I'm pulling bits and pieces for my tweaked a2000 (the mega chip and gvp 040). Is there anyone out there who might have some 1200 bits to trade for toaster bits? I'm hoping someone could put it to use and I could tweak the 1200. :-)

Lucky?, YES! But I had to work for it. The guy that had it had done a lot of work on a documentary about his mother that had died when he was a child and had some iffs on it he had no place else. Even worse, it was on zip and the disk was corrupt. Thank goodness for Dave Hayne, Disksalv, and Amiga Explorer. I got 123 of 125 files and now the guy can finish his doc. I think I got more out of helping him than getting the equipment.

It's sentiments like that that used to define the Amiga community.

Unfortunately, we're more like tokyoracer these days, i.e. owning 16 Amigas and still being jealous of someone else's good fortune. ;-) (Case in point: I wish I had 16 Amigas--or maybe just a stock A600 and an up to date A3000.)

When he told me why the files were important, it made it personal to me. I spent 24+ hours of work and finally had something he could use. I told him I didn't expect any money in return, getting the goodies and everything, but he gave me $50 anyways. I was just happy he was happy.  :-)

@weirdami

Good point. Apologies, tokyoracer. (Though my comment was in jest, of course.) Guess I'm a pessimist.

I can understand the sentiment. I have a number of Amigas/Ataris but I am always get slightly jealous when someone makes a great find. :)
