Definitive Amiga Games Download Site
« on: January 24, 2008, 01:20:51 AM »
I`ve been seriously thinking about a big project recently - Putting every Amiga game ever ever ever on a website hosted from home.  Sure, I won`t get them all, but I`ll get most in the fullness of time.  Does anybody know of any ethical reasons why I shouldn`t do this, because as I see it, it will make absolutely no financial difference to the scary big companies who might want to sue me.  I personally cannot envisionage being taken to court for such actions these days, in the era of file sharing.  Amitorrents is dead, BTTR appears to be gone.  Why the hell shouldn`t I??

Discuss.

Go right ahead, but if some company decides to rerelease an old Amiga classic on XBox Live or some other equivalent, don't be surprised if you get lawyers knocking on your e-mail account or mailbox. It's not about ethics it's about the letter of the law plain and simple.

Also, from a home connection?! You must have a big fat pipe coming into your living room =).

That would be great, but keep this in mind.  Some would view this as Piracy and would shun it.  But the rest of us would embrace it!  Including me ;)

There are some great sites out there, like the Killer Gorilla WHDLoad site.  I think it's great, as you know most of our disks are getting old and dieing, and getting a replacement is almost impossible.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

Why not just help KG with his WHDLoad project? Seems like it makes sense to me. Floppies are dying everyday. If someone doesn't preserve the old games they will ultimately be gone.

Now if a copyright holder contacts you to remove a game or if the game is still available for sale new or ported to an existing platform then pulling it off would make sense as well.

But there are a lot of games that just can't easily be found other than as an ADF. I hope that everyone with a game that isn't already in ADF format online somewhere preserves their disks somehow.

Think of the wealth of ideas for new game developers when the world finally gets sick and tired of first person shooters and RPG games. :-D
I think, Therefore - Amiga....

I would suggest focussing your energy into getting BTTR back online, rather than attempting to reinvent the wheel (even if this in itself has become something of an Amiga hallmark...).

Cheers,
James

That'd be a big job!

Are you thinking of something like this:

No need to reinvent the wheel! :-)

Cheers,

Mike.

Well one thing comes to mind: What about collectors who want to sell their games? Wouldn't such a project de-value collectible items? Just a thought.

By the way, isn't naming and/or linking to warez sites against the rules? Surely everybody knows this? :rtfm:

BTTR is back, you`re right.

No need then lol.  Might make an FTP anyway, like AmigaIsDreaming only without being as tight as a duck`s arse about who I let access it.

(I`m not actually laughing out loud, that would just be insane)
