cloning OS3.9 from one machine to another.. (problems)
« on: January 19, 2008, 01:10:01 PM »
recently I made another A1200 setup with BPPC and BVISION to have OS4 in a compact A1200 and not like I have it in my tower A1200

I wanted also to "clone" my OS 3.9 from my tower to desktop, because I have spent TOO much time configuring and debugging-stabilizing the OS 3.9 of the tower A1200 and I didn't want to do that again!!!

After copying everything from tower's partition to desktop's partition I started to make the needed changes because of some differents config. the config are as:

TOWER: A1200 , BPPC+(scsi) 68060@60 603@266, Bvision, FastATA 128MB

Desktop: A1200 BPPC 68040@25 603@200, Bvision 128MB

so after I changed from startup-sequence and user-startup the assigns that were pointed to different devices, and removing all wbstartup progs, also I checked that 68040.lib are as it supposed (dummy etc...)

I tried to boot , but the screenmode got only on AGA at 640x256
I saw that the bvision monitor was not loaded (eventhought its properly on S-S and in DEVS:)
I load it by hand and finaly the sceenmode prefs shows the modes.
If I try to test that modes it all works as it should be...
But if I try to USE or SAVE the computer do nothing.. the Workbench doesn't promote itself to bvision modes...

Anyone knows why is that happening?

delete (or rename) screenmode.prefs in envarc/sys and reselect prefs/screenmode.

could be that BVision screens are not valid anymore and you have to create them again with cgxmode.

BTW is it P96 or CGX ?

I used in tower CGX V4 but I don't know exactly what version..

so its CGX V4 still in desktop

Also I have tried CGX mode to test the screens and they are opening OK

but I can't understand why its not mounting the bvision driver at boot....
the S-S is ok to bind and load drivers from DEVS:monitors/

The first version of CGX4 had only one monitor driver for both cards. Only some updates later it was divided into two files.

Bye,
Thomas

as the next post from thomas said first versions of GCX 4 had only Cvision driver that worked with bvision too.
after that they had seperate drivers...
but my CGX is updated to 4.2 and the same OS is running with the bvision driver on the tower amiga..
but for some weird reason in the desktop amiga the bvision driver does not start, but the cybervision driver is working properly as I can see till now...

anyone knows where I can find the updates for CGX 4 for bvision?
and If I remember correctly there were some Grex and MOS updates, if I install them in an bvision setup will it be working properly ?
