Greetings from Dundee
« on: January 25, 2008, 08:45:59 PM »
Hi guys n gals, I have been away from the Amiga scene for sometime now, but having played around with Amithlon and UAE my interest has returned with vengence!
I previously owned an A1200 which was kitted out with an Apollo 1240/25 card, I was addicted to Doom for quite a while :D But alas I became dragged over to the darkside and got a PC, which made the miggy a bit redundant and ended up on ebay during hardtimes :/
But! Now Ive seen the error of my ways... So 2 weeks ago I placed an ad on my works internal network for Amiga bits and pieces and Im now the proud owner of an A1200 with Blizzard 68030 50mhz accelerator (no FPU yet :( ) 32mb ram, 10GB 3.5 hard drive ( only have 3.5GB partitioned until I can get the relevant IDE interface ) got that for £50 with every copy of CU Amiga mags CDroms. I also have a second A1200 but it appears to have a problem with the keyboard ribbon and the LEDs dont appear to work on the facia. Tommorrow I`m picking up a free A600. And Monday I`m getting a CDTV for £20, which I reckon is a bit of a bargain, just requires a caddy. Im hoping to kit out with a Mediator busboard eventually. Will this work ok with the 68030 ? I already have the Voodoo 3 grfx, soundcard etc which is a plus. :D

Wow, that's a heck of a catch for a fishing expedition on your local network. I wish mine were so full of fish.:) Welcome to Amiga.org, you'll find plenty of folks willing to help. ....CDTV for 20pounds wow.

Thanx guys :)
Grabbed the A600 today, was amazed its still got its warranty seal, but saddened @ the lack of trapdoor memory :/ Cleaned up not too bad although the usual yellowing of the keys... Not as exciting a machine as some Amigas but... its still a miggy :D

its ok, ive created frankenstien muahaha.... switched the mobo and swapped the faulty keyboard, doesnt have working ctrl keys i think, not 100% sure if its the ribbon or the keys themselves causing the prob, but it has whiter keycaps than the other....( any recommendations for cleaning the connector on the ribbon ? )
Heres a thing too, using WB 3.0 on 3.0 Roms, kickstart 39.106, Workbench version 39.29 mobo rev 2B (3.1 roms are in the post :) ) curious as to why im getting a boot delay, thought that was only relevant to 3.1 roms ?
I will post a photo soon, wee bit late at night and work in the morning. The cap only appears to of started to leak, when you move the cap slighty backwards and forwards you can see the liquid shining in the light, only spotted it after reading about corrosion showing as miss coloured solder. Solder around the cap is almost black :/

Welcome back.
I know where your coming from since i have come back to miggy's only recently.
As for the A1200 capacitor C304, there is a guy that still repairs Amiga's in France and you can always try amigakit.com (it's in the UK) they sell lots of amiga stuff and may also be able to fix the problem.
Or you can post a thread in Hardware regarding trying to fix it.

Welcome and Enjoy.

Thanx for the suggestions and welcomes, nice to be here and seeing that there is still a devoted group of people.
I now have a functioning 1200, all be it, its kinda hanging out its case lol. Dodgy looking IDE splitter means i cant safely use the 3.5 drive inside until i get either an ATA Flyer or the tower, which ever i buy first i guess :) The wife has no probs about the collection so its gonna be a case of grab everything offered/ can afford i reckon... The wee A600 works a treat, playing Wings of Fury & good ole Superfrog on it yesterday, and all excited about the CDTV tomorrow lol.

ITS GOOD TO BE BACK!!!!!
