A500 problem/question
« on: July 21, 2003, 05:41:26 PM »
Hi all,
This is my first post to amiga.org, which is strange because I have been visiting here for more years then I care to remember.  After selling my A1200, I’ve been feeling nostalgic lately and wanted to play some of my original disks (Turbo and Deathsword) on my A500, but I have a problem.  No matter what joystick I plug in (I have 4 different sticks, which work fine on other systems.) the programs click through as though the fire button is being held down. It’s a real shame I never got it fix as it started happening back in the early 90s.  The mouse works fine as do all mouse-based programs, it only happens when I plug in one of the joysticks.  I know I could play the games in UAE, but I prefer to use the real hardware.  Any ideas?
Thank you kindly
  :-?

Well, you should'nt be so eager on the fire button;) No, but seriously.. It sounds like a problem with the joystick port.. What else could it be?

IIRC the CIA chips control the mouse/joystick ports. Maybe try opening up the computer and reseating the CIAs and other socketed chips? And then try swapping the CIAs? If the joystick button works and/or other weirdness happens you would know the CIAs are to blame.

BTW welcome to Amiga.org!!!
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I guess it could be a CIA, but it also could be the keyboard controller going nuts. ?? In any event, I've got the stuff to fix it. :)
