It's not that Elbox rebrands and upsells commodity hardware--that's just good capitalism (*cough* profiteering *cough*). The problem is that representatives of Elbox use words like "revenge" and that Elbox's software is just as likely (perhaps more so) to whack your file system as it is to function as advertised.

then why hasn't someone put one in their mediator then?

Because it cannot work in an unmodified Mediator *ever* as it's missing the required 3,3 V traces. It cannot work for other reasons, at least not if it wants to have access the the motherboard hardware. mboehmer could elaborate on this, and I'm sure you will find some information about it somewhere.

Well, they'd just have to replace the Mediator bridgeboard with a DMA capable one.

BTW, I wonder if PCI-to-Zorro3 DMA is technically possible at all - nobody seems to be able to do it.

So even if the card is just a rebadged sonnet card, everyone here admits that they have to do a lot of software work to get ppc hal for powerup/warpup and os4, and also redesign part of their own amiga spesific hardware...

Okay a $400 add on might be stiff, but then again how much have they invested and how much can they anticipate to sell?

And finnally theres the question of offer and demand, resently ppc cards have traded for $800 and €800 on ebay, if these Elbox cards came with a ppc.library that is 100% or even just 97% compatible with running ppc software with 3.1 and a phase5/DCE card I'd gladly fork over $400 for a brand new card with two years waranty.

Then finally to the allegations that their software drivers erases harddrives. I've read the webpage that dissassembled the driver, and I've read Elbox reply on their page. I don't know what to think about that, but I do think that they won't be doing that again or are doing that anymore...

Now, merry christmas everyone and lets hope that the SAM or EFIKA gets OS4 enabled.
A posting a day keeps the sanity away...

More evidence to support my theory re: the codependent relationship between Amiga users and their Amigas. ;-) We'll all need to stock up on foundation to cover up the bruises Elbox will cause with their next major hardware release.
