Formatting a drive..
« on: December 12, 2007, 04:15:40 PM »
Once again, i know it might not be in the right place..

It's about dealing with a piece of hardware, i'm gonna use in my 12, but i need some sw to do it.

While i'm knocking up a ide cable to connect my 2.5 HD and laptop cd/dvd player.. i've set winUAE the task of formatting the hard disk.. everything is going well except IT TAKES FOREVER!! I have physically aged since begining the process, and i've shaved at least twice. (I fell into a vat of hair restorer when i was younger..)

I'm wondering is you peeps know of a formatting tool out there that runs on the pc windows or linux that can handle the ffs file system (or sfs, if possible), taht i can use with the minimum of fuss, to get the job done faster.

I'm going to have to do at least one more partition on the drive (it's 60GB, i'm not just having one 4GB part on it. :-)), and by the time that is done i'll probably need my teeth trimming..

Apreciated in advance, JB

Big giant arseburgers.. It has finally finished, 5 hrs it took, and at the end?  Format failure, not a valid dos bollock, and in wb although it is showing with the label and can be opened, details show 27% full 0K free 4031M in use..

HELP!!
 :-o

Just use the Quick Format option; should solve your problems!

Yep. Like Flashlab says - Quick Format. I only did a full format ONCE - never again! It was only 2 gig drive, and it took all day! I'm sure there are differences between the options, but danged if I know. Maybe Thomas can chime in here and give an explanation.

Tried that pretty much immediately afterwards, to no avail..

Quick format will be the way to go in future i think.. but now i've gotta sort out this problem where by it doesn't validate the drive..

The last hd i ever used with an amiga was a GVP 52 meg one with a 500+, a long time ago!

I can't remember anything, i can't even unpack lha's! how useless is that?
