I had one but sold it later because of no use. Too heavy for a laptop.  ;-)

Saw one at an Amiga show in Ohio?. Was cool, but to big to be considered anything but a A1200 with a hacked LCD screen.

I think you also had to use their own custom monitor driver to get it to display on the LCD. I might be wrong about that though.

I saw PAWS when they were first out at a show in California.

I love the Idea of a portable amiga, but obviously this 1st attempt was a 1200 placed in a case for portability.

it had a cute little mouse, as I recall.

This is what makes WinUAE so wonderful - it makes having a portable amiga possible on a laptop!
the no CARB diet- no Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld or Bush.

Ah, trackball:

Unfortunately, another Amiga curse story - the person who developed it, Shawn Randolph, is local to me.

The LCD was not a hack, it was driven by a custom designed scan doubler/deinterlacer, the Gecko. So, the info below is bunk:
http://www.amigahistory.co.uk/portamiga.html

He built a number of PAWS units, and loaned them to retailers and distributors to demo so they could take orders. Unfortunately, most of them sold the units, which were not theirs to begin with, and pocketed the money. So, almost all PAWS units out there are stolen. Someone on here could provide much more info ...

Hey,

I forgot about the "Luggable" portables that Quickpak used to advertise all the time.

Did anyone ever actually see/use one of these?

I always remember when they were first touted, but they are SO UGLY and ungainly looking.

For a truly remarkable laptop 'conversion' check this out:

This is a home-brew as well, not a commercial project!

Why, oh why couldn't someone have done the same for the Amiga?

Surely the guts of an A600 would have to be smaller than an Atari 800!!!

Mike.
