Fastlane Z3 SCSI
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:31:03 PM »
Has anyone had trouble with using the CSPPC SCSI and Fastlane SCSI together?

With the Fastlane plugged in, the CSPPC SCSI isnt detected and nor are the HDs plugged into it. Without the Fastlane the CSPPC SCSI detects the HDs.

My Fastlane has the 8.5 revision ROM so its all correct for the 060 cpu.

Any ideas?

Is the fastlande controller set to the same ID as the  CPPC scsi ?

EDIT:  Actually thinking about it, that shouldnt make a difference as they are different devices

What do you mean by that?  Are you saying the Cyberstorm board itself isn't detected?  As in you don't see an entry for it in early-startup?

Or are you saying the Cyberstorm itself is detected, but just the SCSI bus on the Cyberstorm is not "detected"?   If the answer is the latter, are you referring to the drives not being detected?  I'm not sure how you can detect the presence of the SCSI bus without anything attached to it.

Is it possible you have two bootable drives hooked up, one to the Cyberstorm, the other to the Z3?  If thats the case and you left them both with default values for "Boot Priority", then that obviously could pose a problem.

With the Fastlane plugged in, the HDs on the CSPPC SCSI bus are not detected in the Phase 5 SCSI program.

On the Fastlane is a CDRW drive because it isnt detected when I plug it into the CSPPC SCSI bus (I tried a 50 to 68 pin adaptor - didnt work).

There is a HD on the CSPPC SCSI bus.

When I load the Phase 5 SCSI utility with BOTH the CSPPC SCSI bus and Fastlane plugged in only the CDRW on the Fastlane is detected. The CSPPC SCSI bus doesnt show (only shows if I take OUT the Fastlane.

Your A4000 boots whit the Z3 attached?

I mean, it boots normally? Load the Workbench and stuff?

Yes it boots with the Z3 attached and I boot from the mobo IDE HD.

I want to use the CSPPC SCSI bus to boot from and remove the IDE HD.

Try moving the Fastlane to the bottom slot. The Fastlane has some I/O conflicts with certain cards. Namely the Multiface III.

(Editor's note: a Usenet post by David A. Newman states that board revision 2.4 is the most current, with 2.3 and 2.2 also available. Revision 2.2 boards under serial number 31001650 may require a patch by Phase 5 Germany to work with a Broadcaster Elite or DBC32. Use with a 68060 may require a new ROM from Phase 5.)
Won\'t hide my location.

Maybe a silly question: you have an A4000T, right?

Why you don't use the internal SCSI bus instead the Fastlane?

Its a 4000D in a tower.

Moving it to any slot doesnt work at all, when I load the SCSI program the Fastlane comes up as board 0 and when I take out the Fastlane the CSPPC SCSI bus comes up a board 0 as well.

So it looks to me as the Fastlane overrides the CSPPC SCSI bus somehow?

Update

Ive got a OS3.9 emergency disk setup and I can see the CSPPC SCSI bus and Fastlane bus.

The CDRW on the Fastlane is ok but when I use OS3.9 HDToolBox to use the HD it says this device cannot be handled by HDToolBox.

So how do I use the HD, as the SCSI unit control program doesnt see the CSPPC SCSI bus only the Fastlane bus?

To recap

SCSI unit control can see the Fastlane bus but NOT the CSPPC SCSI bus.

OS3.9 HDToolBox can see BOTH the Fastlane Bus and CSPPC SCSI bus but cannot use the HD.

did you try to boot with install3.1 using kick3.1?

hdtoolbox with matching device?

use setpatch without >nil: to see possible errors
sorry but my english is not the best :-D
