A4K Probs
« on: November 14, 2007, 03:39:13 PM »
Ok.. time to start a new thread. My A4K is driving me nutty.

The power light flashes and resets a lot. I had it stripped down to the board and thought I had solved it. I had my stock 040 CPU Card in there and it seemed to be OK. I put the cyberstorm in, and things were OK until I tried to add the X-Surf, then it refused to boot. I just put the stock CPU card in and now it just booted no prob. Think the cyberstorm is faulty?

Could be,  but clean the contacts on the CS card.  Also if there is a socketted oscillator, reseat it, or try another.

Can I just spray deoxit on the connector on the cyberstorm? I'll give it a try.. when it works, it works fine! I'm sure a good cleaning will help.

Sounds like a capacitor problem on the motherboard to me..

Have you another 4000 to test with?

Nope cuz cyberstorm needs 3.1 roms. Only have one 4k with 3.1's. Computer works no problem with the stock 3640. Cyberstorm works whenever it feels like it...

Oh, just got a note fron Jens! My buddha flash is incompatible with the X-Surf. I guess I'm getting a new rom or something... If I can get the cyberstorm working again I think i'm going to go SCSI!

Werd! Everything is working now, except for the X-Surf. TJLazer is the man! The crystal is permanently soldered in place so I just pushed down on it, and it booted!

I assume you mean the crystal on the CSPPC?

Yes.
It was just last Saturday that I solved that problem once again.

The problem occurs every 1 - 1 1/2 years:
The contacts in the connectors between the CSPPC and the MoBo do oxidize.

If my maschine shows those symptoms I demount the Amiga and give the contacts in question a good shower with "Kontakt60"
spray to etch the oxide film and annother good shower with "KontaktWL" to wash away the etched oxide film.

[EDIT]
Provide enough time time for drying before powering it up again (1 hour was always sufficient here)!
[/EDIT]

Both sprays are from "Konakt-Chemie", a German company, but
I'm sure you have similar products available in your local area.

Until now this procedure was 100% successfull every time...

I can only strongly suggest to first clean the contacts in the connectors between CSPPC and MoBo and then to give it annother try, before sending the CSPPC in for "reballing" the PPC - most likely dirty contacts are the reason for failure - not badly soldered PPC chips...

So it seems there is what we call here in Germany a "cold soldering".

Just re-solder it...

It's called a "cold solder joint" here in the US, Dandy, so I think you've got it spot on :-)
