Any USB Keyboard/Mouse Recommendations?
« on: October 26, 2008, 09:06:44 PM »
Hi,
I've got a SAM440ep on order and of course I'm going to need a USB Keyboard and mouse, which I haven't got (yet more expense!). Has anyone got a recommendation they can make? Or any that I should avoid?

TIA
Cheers,
Rudi.

I'm not sure if it'll work with your Samantha, but I use this keyboard with my Efika and it works like a charm. It's a Dell SK-8135 and has a two-port USB (1.1) hub built-in (I use it to connect a mouse or other low-speed devices). Never had any problems with it, and the extra multimedia keys (like Mute and Volume Knob) work in MorphOS on Efika with no problems. So I can assume there won't be any on Samantha either. Good luck with your search =)

Thanks for the tip!  When I've got a bit more money together I'm thinking about buying an Efika but I'm not sure what to do about a case.  How have you cased yours, if you don't mind me asking?

Yep the new apples are great. You can also source th G4 stle graphite keyboard, or the white g5.

I had an A1200 silver/black  project I was working on. Seriously thought about placing an apple keyboard into the A1200 case using keyrah and some old fashion prototyping model building techniques (fiberglass, epoxy, etc).

The new Apple silver keyobard is REALLY great. Try it out at the apple store.

Also like the Saitek Keyboards with the backlit blue or red FX.

Case for Efika... Long story!

I'm still building mine, I got almost all I need.

My choice was this 5.25" enclosure:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/images/full/a15fw.jpg

Bought from Maplin for 25 quid. What I liked about was the aluminium finish and mesh sides :) And it's really easy to access with the screws on top (and bottom).

Efika fits there perfectly, even with the longer-than-usual Radeon 9250 with 256MB (they are longer than 128MB Radeons).

The enclosure comes with the 12V AC/DC adapter aswell, so I used it to power my PicoPSU (which also fits perfectly in this enclosure).

All I need to do now is to make some kind of a back-plate with the holes for Efika layout.

I'll post some photos when I reach the right stage =)

Good luck with your project.

i managed to snag one of these from the presentation suite of my last place when they did an upgrade...

Gyration RF keyboard and mouse. 100ft range.

works well with any usb enabled amiga too as its just a standard HID.class device.

keyboard takes some getting used to, but it hides under the coffee table well...  :-)

@skipp604

I haven't really got the time, skill or inclination to do my own case. Do you fancy doing mine as well?
Hope all goes well finishing your case. I'll just have to give it some more thought. Somebody on a forum said they were going to make a case out of Lego! I was always pretty good with Lego, maybe I should go down that route!

Cheers,
Rudi.
