@AJCopland

680x0 *IS* emulated. In fact, thanks to the JIT emulator, 040 users will notice that 68k apps run much, much faster. If you add that 98% of the OS is native PPC code you get a huge speed up.

You can also use simple skins like the used on OS3.x and you will notice the speed even more.

OS4 for Classic is more or less the same as the A1 version but with different drivers

@krize

WHDLoad won't work. But you can reboot to OS3.x to launch your game easily.

Demos probably not, but depends on the OS-friendliness of the demo.

Why would it be emulated? This is OS4 for CLASSIC, i.e. amigas that have a 68k cpu. In fact since it's for CLASSIC and requires a PPC chip there must be a 68040 or 68060 on board the PPC accelerator as well.

No, the 68k cpu IS emulated. I think they said something about "turning off" the 68k, as it made the PPC even faster. I'm not sure about the technical details though.

--EDIT: I've been informed on IRC that this is actually quite silly. I think the quote I half remembered was actually referring to the lack of context switches between 68k and PPC.

But the 68k emulation is reportedly very fast. Usually faster than an 060 on a CSPPC.. (of course speed will vary between different applications).

Luckily I bought PPC and Mediator before this "new wave of AOS4 booom".  Dunno will I ever get an AOS4 but dual boot might be cool for start.

If classic hardware is emulated completly (where not using the real hw) and fast enough there is no reason to use AOS3.9 anymore then, is there?  Still I doubt that all games and stuff would work perfectly on AOS4.

BTW. Acube & Hyperion seem to advertise AOS4.0 just for A3000 and A4000 amigas (http://www.acube-systems.com/compatibility/) . Is this some kind of sick A1200 racism  or does A1200 really have so serious compatibility / performance issues???
I could save Aeon, but she will not come. Who will save me?

Hmmmm - I'm sure should the Elbox SharkPPC ever see the light, it will come with no 68k CPU  - just PPC...
All the best,
