Hi folks,

Been looking in vain for a list of 15khz capable SVGA monitors, I'd have thunk somewhere, someone, might have compiled a list of Amiga friendly monitors, but nope, cain't not find none...

gah, that's all the "simple" way would pull out, having trouble with filtering anything that has a low sync that's between 15 and 16khz. Possibly more in there.

Well now...

Just went and looked up a long list of monitors... seems I might not be so badly off for a decent amiga monitor after all.. haven't found and verified operation of the 1084S yet, but I did discover I owned one of these puppies...

yes it's huge. I have totally forgotten where it came from and whether it works. I *had* 3 big monitors I got for free, swapped one for RAM, the other is a Qvision 210 and I thought the other was a non-functional HP that's sitting in the garage. When I moved here I thought enough of this one to make sure the screen was padded... and had it put in the basement rather than the garage, so maybe I got it at a yard sale or something. Either that or I tested it on the PC at 1024x768 and thought it was broke and forgot about it.

Then I drag out an Atari monitor I picked up, was thinking it was a backup composite monitor, but nope it's the SC1435 RGB monitor, kind of equivalent to the 1084S.

Also found I've still got a Electrohome ECM1312U which is a bit of a wierd beast being high res and high persistance, (but only a 13inch tube) but I beleive it accepts EGA and CGA signals too, so this should sync Amiga output also. This one might be nice on dblPAL or dblNTSC because of persistance.

Anyhoo, looks like I can quit worrying if the 1084 doesn't show itself soon, but I've got some cables to make up...

just a quick note.

ALL LCD tv's do 15khz. even the cheapo ones do 1024...
and usually have up to 4 input types. S-video, Composite, RGB, SCART.....

Conrac Inc does use the (Electrohome/) Microvitec 14" technology to still produce that monitot  - but for rack mounting.

Great, let's keep all this monitor info rolling...

N/A market LCD TVs are generally only getting S-video or composite inputs that are a bit muddy still. At least the cheaper ones. I figure people willing to spend $250+ on a monitor solution aren't hurting to find what they want. Just trying to figure what older stuff is out there for cheap.

Anyone else who gets hold of an Atari SC1435, might like to know that the pinout is the same as for the 1084S 9 pin, whick is the same as a standard CGA pinout...

Also if you get your hands on a monster Diamond Scan 20M you might like to know the HD15 pinout is apparently non-standard. i.e. a standard straight through HD15 monitor cable won't work. See this...

However it also has the 5 BNC connectors, which may be a little easier to make up a cable for. This information may assist you in aquiring one free or cheap. If someone tries to test it with a standard 15pin it won't work. So maybe take a chance on any free "broken" ones in case they have been tested with the wrong cable or tested at 1024x768.

The big unknown question is which LCD's accept 15kHz through their *RGB* (VGA) inputs, as opposed to the crummy comp(or S-video) that most TV's have always accepted.

Vartech makes 15kHz capable CRTs, ranging from $1200 to $3000 (14" and 19" respectively).

I guess the best idea is to hunt out the medical imaging and industrial setups that are changing out CRT or older LCD stuff for the newer LCD stuff. Then pick through the decomissioned 15khz stuff for the less burned and banged better units.

I was finding a lot of industrial and medical replacement stuff but thought the prices too ridiculous to mention them as an option. Might occasionally find deals on it though I guess.
