A3000 connect/use external scsi cdrom
« on: October 10, 2007, 06:01:52 PM »
My A3000 came without a cdrom, so I snagged an external scsi cdrom. I see it on ID4 in SYSINFO, but when I put in a cd it doesn't "mount" it for use.

I think I'm overlooking a cdfs driver. Am I right? If so is there a free on on aminet? Any tips to setup/install would be appreciated. I've been off the amiga scene for way too long.

Try this> http://aminet.net/disk/cdrom/amicdfs240.lha

Make sure that the cd is terminated properly or no matter what software you install, it won't work.

Do other external SCSI devices work? Some A3000 had components mounted the wrongway round which prevented the external SCSI connector to function.
Get a SAM, while you can! The new AMIGA is here!

I'm not sure, this cdrom is the only external scsi device I have.

On some A3000 boards the terminators were reversed, and some even have them soldered in. You'll have to remove the onboard terminators (resistor arrays) and terminate the bus on the last external drive; an active terminator is better than a passive one but not required.

PS: The resistor packs have single-pin, very low profile sockets, don't break them off unless you're really sure there's no socket.

I do see the cdrom listed as Device ID4 in Sysinfo when it queries the SCSI bus. Doesn't that show that it's connected and recognized on the hardware level?

Ah HA! I got it, I had to change the device # in /devs/dosdevices/cd0 to the scsi id.

SOrry for all the issues.
