Hi folks,
Anyone have experience with the promigos/amigos HDD unit and interface...
As seen here...
http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=1233or here...
http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/amigoshdI've got one, but don't really "get" how it's set up. The interface that plugs into the expansion port appears very simple, connects to the HDD box with a 19 pin D. But then inside there is an OMTI based SCSI controller that is plugged into a 68 pin interface on the cable side and..... an RLL Hard Disk Drive... yes... I checked... twice... it's an RLL drive. Now I'm not "getting" whether the board in the case is a SCSI controller that is adapting the RLL drive to a SCSI bus, or... bizarrely... is a SCSI interface and SCSI convertor all on one board, i.e. it makes a SCSI bus only across that PCB until it's connected to the RLL drive.
So I'm kinda struggling to see the "point" to this design, and also of course trying to figure how the heck to use a bigger drive in it, and/or use it as a "real" SCSI interface. It's got a 38MB nominal drive in now which was about the limit of the architecture I think for RLL.
Interface has Elaborate Bytes Rev 2.6 ROMs in, dated '93, hope that means it's bootable. Not a lot else in there, a PAL and some logic.
So ummm... does this sound like a true SCSI implementation, or is it likely just some hack to make a cheap drive look like a SCSI drive to the Amiga??
