AmIRC crashes horribly
« on: July 08, 2003, 05:35:00 AM »
Has anyone else had this problem?

I downloaded the latest non-beta version of AmIRC (3.5 I think - unregistered) from Vapor.com, ran the install script and load it up.

Looks like a good program, but when I try to save the preferences the computer instantly crashes, sometimes to the point unvalidating my hard drive.  Grrr.

As the default is to save the preferences upon exit of the program this is incredibly annoying.
And of course I can't change the default without saving the prefs...

I've tried running it from a no startup-sequence boot, and without my 4xEIDE interface, all with the same result.

I can't imagine that this would be a 'limitation' of the unregistered version, there's no mention of prefs saving being disabled or anything in the included guide file.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?  I'm not too keen to keep experimenting as it's no fun fixing my harddrive after each try.

My system:

   A1200 w/DKB Mongoose 68030 + 68882 + 34M RAM
   4xEIDE Interface w/4G HD + 40x CD Drive + ZIP
   AmigaOS 3.5 + DirOpus 5.8

Amiga 1230/50 + 34MB  (OS3.5 + DOpus 5.82)

Could be a bad MUI setup or a buggy class...but apart from that I've never heard of this problem before. You could try updating all your classes, but short of that I don't have a clue. Even before I registered AmIRC didn't crash like that. Then again, the original 3.5 is very buggy...

And if you want to experiment I'd recommend you do it from RAM or an SFS/PFS partition in future - much safer.
