FS: white A4000/040
« on: September 26, 2007, 07:52:21 PM »
I am selling one of my A4000/040s. I crashed my car today, plus I will be moving very soon so I am a little short on cash.

Specs:

Stock A4000/040 (220V PSU) in absolute pristine condition, that means no yellowing at all (well, maybe 0.9%)! The keyboard (french type AZERTY) is in the same perfect cosmetic condition.

It has a Rev.B mobo, with soldered rev.9 Buster chip, and 3.0 ROMs. The battery has been removed and there is no sign of any damage done by leaking. The only thing is that the motherboard is a bit dusty (has been in storage for 5 years). There is of course also the original A3640 accelerator, and a HD diskdrive.

The machine only has 2MB of Chip RAM. I can throw in some SIMMs if you want, I believe I have some spare 4MB or 8MB ones lying around. Not sure about the size. Finally, a harddisk of (I think) 120MB is aboard.

There is no mouse, and no books.

But now pay attention!:
I bought this A4000 only recently on Ebay, and haven't been able to test it thoroughly yet since my only 15 KHz monitor appears to be dead. The only testing I have done is power it up and listen. The harddrive spins up and makes some sounds, but there is no sign of booting. The diskdrive doesn't click either.
I'm pretty sure this is just some minor thing that might have been caused by transport, since the previous owner claimed he had it working. You can read his description in the original auction right here: Ebay auction

Anyway, I bought this machine, bearing in mind that it might not be working right out of the box, so I'm not cutting much on the price. I can try to sell this one on Ebay again, trying to make as much money as possible (I'm sure can fetch more than I paid for eventually), but I will let this machine go for the same price for which I bought it.

PM me when interested. If I received multiple PMs from people who want it, then I'll have a draw :-)

And for all of you who don't want to read above text, here's the short version:

White A4000/040. Probably working. US$ 275 or your country's equivalent (200 Euro, 140 GBP).

I could also have said "sold as-is" like they do on Ebay all the time on stuff that doesn't work. At least I'm honest :-)

I'm sure I can get it working (I've revived "dead" Amigas before), but I have no means nor time to test it right now.

I am sure you can, but you realize you will lose a lot of money since this setup is current NOT working.  You will take a loss and have to sell it as Not working or parts...

My suggestion?  Find the means to test it and make sure it works, you will get back all your money if you do this.  If not... You will lose over half what you paid for.
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

I always wanted an A4000 whan I was younger too, can't justify it at the moment, ah well.

Hope the car crash wasn't too serious, i.e. no injuries or anything.

Nah, just wrecked the side, but since the car is 14 years old the damage is probably higher than the total worth of the car...

Small update on the A4000: I removed the harddisk and cleaned some contacts, reseated cables etc, and at least the diskdrive starts clicking, and when inserting a disk, it appears to be booting.

But since none of y'all seems to want a non-working A4000, I'm just going to do a proper install then.

To be continued (and new sale to be announced..)
