HD on A600
« on: October 08, 2007, 08:41:47 AM »
Hi I've got 2 A600s I want to fit a hard disk (actually a compact flash direct to the IDE, but might try my 170mb hard disk first).

One has rom version 37.299, the other has 37.300.

Can either of these have a HD attached, even a small one?

or do I need to get 37.350 rom version???

Thanks, rick.

You need 37.3 or higher or it won't boot. So the one with 37.299 won't work.

37.299 -> can only access the HDD when booted from floppy.

37.300 -> is unreliable in recognizing HDDs. Some work, some don't.

If you decide to upgrade, you better go for a 3.1 ROM (40.63).

Bye,
Thomas

Maybe it's just buggy rather than a missing feature, which is why it does sometimes work.

Is this an issue on the A1200 too?

If so how do I verify the version I have?

Some IDE flash adapters miss the 44th pin (IDE type), so they not work on Amiga. 40 pin versions simply not work at all.

I have a Toshiba (IBM/Mac relabeled) 2Gb 2.5" hard drive on my ks37300 A600. Some bad implemented IDE drives simply don't work (yes, scsi.device resident on ks37300 is bad-written).

Assuming you have a 37300 (2.05 ROM), try different hd's in order to see if one is recognized.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
