A2000 Woes...

Well my free A2000 has a leaky battery. Whats the best procedure to get rid of the battery, clean the PCB and resolder a new battery? I dont have a soldering iron nor the skills.

Just cut off the legs.
Use internet time in startup-sequence if you can.

That's it in a nutshell but I would also clean up the MB of any corrosion and possible acidic residue. Wiping off the residue with a cloth soaked in a baking soda solution and then wiping it off again with water is what I have done.

I use some vinegar + water to neatralize it and then use metho to clean the area, you can use a toothbrush to do this. Once the area is cleaned I dry the board with a hairdryer then spray some PCB lacquer after repairing it to protect and prevent further corrosion.

You can remove the battery by using some wire cutters. The proper way to do it is to unsolder it from underneath, you can also replace it from the top side of the board if you're really good with a soldering iron.

Wow.. I think i'm too late... i got curious so i popped off the drive carrier and power supply... all corroded including the legs of the 68k... she's a goner... will check color of screen when I get a color monitor.. 'cuz all i have is mono composite to work with..... DAMN BATTERIES!
