GVP 2000-HC+8 & Guru ROM v6.13
« on: September 12, 2007, 09:20:58 PM »
Hi,

I have the subject card and... I have some problems.
The card works since I can see all the installed memory (6 Mb + 2 Mb not used since I have an A2286AT).
I have now an HD but I cannot find out how to use it.
Some config info:
* card ID0
* HD ID1
* CD-ROM ID2 - terminated
The GVP utils see the HD but I cannot use it.
Some questions:
* a small descriptions of the Guru ROMs...?
* which is the device name? omniscsi.device? gvpscsi.device?
* can I use the HDToolBox to config the HD?
* usual way (HDToolBox [device] from CLI)?
* have I to term the external SCSI port of the card?
* When I put a jumper in the J4 the computer don't do anything... J4 is the autoboot jumper, right?

Thanx to all...

Hi flaviosr,

I can only answer a couple of your questions:

* which is the device name? omniscsi.device? gvpscsi.device?

The device name is gvpscsi.device

can I use the HDToolBox to config the HD?

Unfortunately you can not use HDToolBox to config the HD, you need to use FassstPrep disk (or the like) from GVP.

I use OS 3.9 GVP 2000-HC+8 & Guru ROM v6.14 and the following work for me:
1. For info on Guru ROMs see http://babel.de/amiga.html
2. The device name is omniscsi.device for a Guru ROM
3. Yes, set tooltype to omniscsi.device. You can also use the GVP prep tool but again set tooltype to omniscsi.device.
4. Try "HDToolBox askdevice" or "HDToolBox device omniscsi.device" from CLI. This might be unique to OS3.9?
5. I do not have a term on the external port. The trouble with the GVP card is it does not provide term power, but in theory whatever device is at each end of the SCSI bus should be terminated including the controller if it is at the end.
6. Yes J4 is the autoboot jumper.

All the best
Nigel

Looks good. The card is probably at ID7 though, not 0. (default=7)

GVP Utils sees it? Are you really sure it has a GURU rom?

Quote
* which is the device name? omniscsi.device? gvpscsi.device?

omniscsi.device is if it does have a guru rom, gvpscsi.device if it doesn't.

Yes, sure you can. Click on HDToolbox, right mouse button, in menu go to Information and add/edit the tooltype SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=omniscsi.device (or gvpscsi.device)
HDToolbox should now find your devices.

Quote
* have I to term the external SCSI port of the card?

Not if there is nothing connected. If there is the last device should be terminated.

J4 is autoboot. You mean it doesn't boot from HD, or does it hang completely?

*** I received it with ID3 and then I decided to change it to ID0... could this create problems? Normally it should not...

GVP Utils sees it? Are you really sure it has a GURU rom?
*** the HD is seen but I cannot use it! :(((
The HD is seen only by the GVP Util and only if I use bindrive (or something similar) command from menu!
mmm... there is the strange socket with a label Guru ROM v6.13... and I have also the floppy media with the driver... that's where I read about omnidevice!

omniscsi.device is if it does have a guru rom, gvpscsi.device if it doesn't.
*** with HDTooLBox none of the above works... :(((
Only the FassstPrep sees the HD...

* have I to term the external SCSI port of the card?

Not if there is nothing connected. If there is the last device should be terminated.
*** I want to use internally an HD and a CD-ROM (teminated at the end)... should I term the external plug?

Quote
* When I put a jumper in the J4 the computer don't do anything... J4 is the autoboot jumper, right?

J4 is autoboot. You mean it doesn't boot from HD, or does it hang completely?[/quote]
*** it hangs completely! :(((
Direct question: if J4 is closed the card is autobooting, right?

Ciao and thanx
