Using an Archimedes Monitor on an Amiga
« on: September 07, 2007, 11:11:43 AM »
Hi All,

My Microvitec monitor has stopped displaying a picture from my A1200 - was on it's way out - now it has gone :(

Finding a replacement monitor is proving tough.  I have an opportunity to use an Acorn Monitor that comes with an Archimedes 3000 but don't want to buy it on the off chance that it will work.

Can anyone advise if the A3000's monitor will work on my A1200 please?

Thanks all!

Which model monitor is it? Later Archie monitors are just standard 31KHz VGA models and do not work with Amiga (without a scandoubler / gfx card).

A3000 is an older model Archie, it may work, find out the Monitor Model number.

I have a feeling it will turn out to be a re-branded Philips CM8833 monitor which works fine with A1200.

Thanks for that.  I have asked for the model number from the person selling it.  My hope was that it was a Philips (was also hoping it would have been a multiscan but that was a long shot).

Thanks

Hi there - eventually got feedback. The monitor is a genuine Acorn monitor and on the back has the following:

28-AKF17 0123750
Nr TV009132

Pretty non descript I know - but what do you think - is there a good chance this will work with the Amiga?

Cheers

John

That is the Philips 8833 MK11 monitor.  I believe it will work . It has a 15 khz display and should have a DB9 connector on the back.

Philips CM8833-II has a RGB connector which can accept both analogue and digital RGB signal. The RGB connector uses the following pinout:

I knew it would be, be careful there is a lot of mis-information out there about these monitors.

Thanks Very much guys - much appreciated.  I have ordered it up (comes with an Archie 3000 so if anyone wants that...)

One final question if you dont mind.  The Acorn monitor won't be as High resolution as my 15" Microvitec will it?  It's basically just an RGB TV isnt it?  Just wondering - any display is better than no display :)

thanks again for all your help

John
