Share PC mouse.keyboard and montior with Amiga - or alternative?
« on: September 02, 2007, 05:11:58 PM »
Just got my A1200 setup again, its in a tower case so has an external keyboard.

Anyway, its currently using an old Amiga mouse, PC keyboard with one of those big round connectors and a 1084s monitor.
Next to this is my PC with USB mouse, keyboard and a big LCD monitor.

What I'd like is to get rid of the old Amiga keyboad, mouse and monitor and just have a nice neat setup that shares everything.

Is this possible? If so, where do I start? Alternativly, how does the Amiga look when hooked up to a HD TV? Is there a way to connect the Amiga to one of these? Does it look good? Would it eliminate flicker? Would it allow all Amiga resolutions to be displayed? I'm thinking a wall mounted LCD TV would be a good solution regarding space, since I would probably want a TV in the room anyway.

Sorry for all the questions in one post! Thanks in advance.

Hi Mintfresh,

I had by big box 2000 hooked up with a Cocolino adapter for the mouse and a Lyra for the keyboard. Both devices were from Amigakit. Then I had a Microway FlickerFixer AGA 2000 card allowing me to connect my Amiga into a modern monitor. I use a Samsung flat screen monitor.

I had the Amiga and three PCs all share the same monitor, keyboard and mouse through a Data Transfer Switch: An "ab box".

It worked just fine. So yes, it's possible.

If you have a hard time finding a video card for your 1200, perhaps something like this would help.

Thanks for the reply Fester. I'll have alook around the AmigaKit website for the stuff you mention.

Not sure if there is any way of getting a graphics card on my 1200? That hack for the A1000 looks to complicated for me, not sure it'd work on a 1200 either.

I think I need to go down the flicker fixer/scan doubler route for the monitor? Can't seem to see any where I can get one of these though.

I've also seen some boxes mentioned that convert scart and such like to VGA signals? Not sure if these are worth getting?

I dabbled only with the 2000s and never really explored the 1200. I purchased a 1200 on eBay once with the intention of converting it into an Elbox D-Box tower, but I hit a snag and brought the 1200 and all the parts to a repair shop in Minnesota and never saw my equipment again. So I'm not sure what flicker fixer is best for a 1200. My ebay 1200 did come with a DCE: Flicker Magic which just clips on top of a couple chips. It worked ok on my flat screen monitor.

Well, best is I describe My setup and what I intend to do.
See yourself if that's something you could use as well:

I have a fully expanded Amiga 4000 PPC and a WinXP pro PC.

In order not to have two monitors, two keyboards and two mice on the desk, I looked for a software solution.

I found RDesktop.
With RDesktop it is possible to remote the WinXP pro box from the Amiga.
Desktop, keyboard, mouse and sound are redirected to the Amiga.

I donated 25 canadian $ to the project and just received the full version, which I'm currently setting up.

But you should be aware that an 68060 prcessor is strongly recommended, as well as a decent graphical card (I'd take an Mediator PCI board with a Voodoo and a NIC to network the two - but that depends on your liquidity).

No idea - I don't have a HD TV yet...
All the best,
