BVision installation problems...
« on: August 25, 2007, 11:57:10 AM »
I got myself BlizzardVision graphics card and have some trouble getting it to work. The hardware shows up in the BlizzardPPC PCI menu and showcgxconfig. However the screenmodes never show up in preferences, although CGX3 has been installed from the installation package at http://phase5.a1k.org/index.php?id=3

The only thing I can think of causing this trouble is WarpUp. Still, I installed 040 version of CGX so that should not be an issue and I also have environment variables correctly set up (force and gfxaddr).

Any ideas? I run OS3.9 with a bunch of different commodities and utilities, but there is nothing I can think of that would cause this trouble.

Use cgx44fixer from exec44beta4.lha

Code: [Select]
o Some software explicitly check for V40 and think V44 is *older* than
V40. Luckily such broken software is very rare. These programs include
CyberGraphX software (only upto cgxv42_r2_pre8). Here is how you can fix
   it:

     > cd libs:
     > copy clone cgxsystem.library cgxsystem.library.backup
     > cgx44fixer cgxsystem.library
cgx44fixer by Harry "Piru" Sintonen <sintonen@iki.fi>
     patch 0: offset: 0x0243E0
     patch 1: offset: 0x025C86
     cgxsystem.library patched succesfully.

(Note: offsets vary with different cgxsystem.library versions!)

If there should be any problems with the patched cgxsystem.library just
restore the backup. Without this patch the displayinfo database is
wrong and you can't see any CGFX modes in screenmode requesters.

UPDATE: The latest pre-release of CGX V4.2 (cgxv42_r2_pre11) finally
fixes this problem, and thus you no longer need this patch. Hooray! :-)

That did the trick! Now I have the modes visible, but I still get no picture. Both displays I've tested (LG Flatron LCD and LG LCD-TV) report "no signal", regardless of the graphics mode. There should not be problems with cabling etc. as I get boot menu display in the BVision correctly.

pick up a pre-configured VESA resolution in CGXMode, accondingly to your LCD monitor size:

1024x768 @ 60HZ for a 15"

1280x1024 @60HZ for a 17"

and so

Unfortunately I'm running CGX version 3 that does not have preinstalled VESA-modes. Seems I have to place an order for CGX4 then...

CGX4 is much better than CGX3, but you can still manually enter the VESA values for CGX3 aswell. It's more manual work, though.

Just a thought: could this be some other problem? The displays are not reporting that sync is out of range but complete lack of signal. I've been reading the other BVision thread and it seems I also have rev.0 BPPC and that has been giving people headaches. BVision shows up correctly in Amiga boot menu, BPPC PCI menu (I have the latest flash rom from phase5.a1k.org) and gets listed via showcgxconfig. Does that mean that the card should work also in CGX?

Either 1280x1024 or 1024x768 in 16 bit. The native resolutions of my displays are 1280x1024 and 1440x900(?) so they should be able to handle those at 60Hz.
