Want to build A1200 for WHDLOAD gaming purposes...
« on: September 01, 2007, 01:28:03 PM »
I would like to build an A1200 for WHDLOAD gaming purposes, I did not want to spend much - will this setup be enough to:

1. Get WHDLOAD files from CD-ROM to internal hard drive
2. Play all classic amiga games available on WHDLOAD

The setup:

Workbench 3.1
Amiga 1200 (Desktop)
Kickstart ROMS 3.1
Internal 2.5" Hard disk (few gigs should be more than enough)
4 MB ROM upgrade (total 6MB)
Squirrel SCSI Card to connect external CD-ROM SCSI Drive (which I already have!)
RGB/SCART cable for TV connection

Thanks in advance :)

Yep, that should be fine for most stuff.  There'll be a few games that either require more RAM or a faster processor, but 95% of games should run on that setup.

Well I wanted to play the games that I used to play when I had one ages ago, the kind which worked on a vanilla a1200 :)

Wanted to use WHDLOAD though as I did not plan to play around with floppy disks.

Why not run a Compact Flash IDE adapter, then you can simply insert the Amiga formated Compact Flash card in your PC and transfer files to it in WinUAE?

@Everblue

Funny, that's about exactly my A1200 retro setup, works like a charm. I have an additional '030 installed, but few games make use of it.

I am now preparing a CD-Rom with stuff I will need to get the A1200 going... I am compiling a list, so far I put:

WHDLoad + Keyfile + Kickstart ROMs/RTBs
ADF2DISK
HDInstTools
Installer43_3
LHA
Snoopdos

What else do you guys recommend putting?

Thanks!

Managed to get a free Amiga 1200, with a dead motherboard (yellow screen on booting, and it stays that way).

I just bought the following for €140, shipped:

A1200 Motherboard (working!) without Kickstart Roms
Blizzard 030/50 IV, without co-processor
SilverSurfer (not very useful but it was packaged in the deal!)

So all remains to get is a smallish 2.5HDD and I'm set

Hopefully photos coming soon.

I'm using her predominately for classic games, Picasso IV and WHDload is an awsome combination! :-D
