I purchased Ibrowse 1.x new years ago when it came out. I still have the disks and the serial number but I lost the packing. I tried to upgrade to 2.x and was not able to because I didn't have some information from the original packing/box whatever.

I gave up on it at that point when I was advised to just re-buy version 2.x because 2.4 was soon to be released.

I hope it works out for you. BTW there is still an active Ibrowse mailing list in the Yahoo Groups. Perhaps someone on the list can help you?

Jeff

Yeah but there is no link on how to register. I'll contact Software Hut to see if they can help.  In the box came a letter from them on how to register for 2.1, and that was the link I posted below. There is even a serial/key number on the letter so I am legit.  I commandeered a working key for now until I get it sorted!  ;)

You should contact the eBay seller and ask them to send you the corresponding IBrowse2Key file.  You don't mention the eBay listing URL, so it's hard to comment, but if you were specifically sold a registered copy of IBrowse then that should have included a key.  Presumably the serial number has already been used to register that copy and retrieve the key, so even if the HiSoft site was still up, you wouldn't have been able to re-register it anyway.

If the seller won't provide a key, then they've ripped you off and essentially sold you a demo version.  IBrowse parted ways with HiSoft 4-5 years ago.

Iospirit were handling registrations until March this year. Their "Goodbye, Amiga Market" message suggests they are passing the baton on to ibrowse dev team for registration and support. Unfortunately it looks like the ibrowse dev team have yet to update their website to reflect this, as this FAQ shows they are still pointing people back towards the iospirit website.

A banner at the top of the page does state, however that

IBrowse 2.4 is temporarily unavailable for purchase. Apologies for any inconvenience.

I'd try, as Jeff suggested, contacting the ibrowse mailing lists to see when registration will become a possibility once more.

Also, iirc, the iospirit website only allows you to download the keyfile for a limited time after registration, so as futaura pointed out the seller really should have provided you with the keyfile, as you have no way to acquire a genuine one yourself.

If the seller provided a SEALED product in its original, unopened box then he will not have a keynumber, either.

Buying old software is a gamble;sometimes it can be used as is,sometimes upgraded, sometimes it is just a bit of computing history! Sealed copies of older versions of Norton, various antivirus,OSes, and tax programs appear on ebay and at other venues;they are NOT demo versions, but the product has passed its expiration date.
