StarOffice
« on: July 01, 2003, 02:25:24 PM »
Hi, I know this isn't strictly Amiga :nervous:
but I have been using StarOffice on my PII 400 Laptop for general word-processing (Letters, etc)
[Yes I know, I should be using an Amiga!]. The problem is, it keeps crashing on me, even more than MS Word did when I was at University! Has anyone else had problems with it? Anyone got any suggestions as to why it might be crashing?
(I run it on a dual-boot PII under Winblows 98)  :-?

I remember trying a particular version of StarOffice that even a slight breeze would blow it over.  Is it just StarOffice crashing or do other apps as well (regularly)?

No, just StarOffice.
TBH, I only really use WinBlows for running StarOffice, Opera and my Canon digital camera software, oh and multiplayer Diablo II!

I think it might just be that particular version of StarOffice (I can't remember the exact version that caused me problems).  You might want to try OpenOffice instead?  It's based on staroffice, but free and opensourced.

I've never used Star Office myself, but I regularly use Open Office and it's the most stable thing on this PC :-)

I think I had StarOffice 4.7, well something like that and it used to send my system potty; always trying to read from the floppy drive.

I have the free StarOffice beta, it's alright, it's actually based on Open Office IIRC, with more features. (undocumented 'features' as well as documented features) Haven't used it much yet (got it at end of school year) but it didn't seem That unstable, maybe it's because I got last beta version... dunno
