Relocate roms to fast ram?
« on: August 13, 2007, 04:11:23 PM »

Anyone know how to skick my rom into fast ram? I've read it makes access faster, but I haven't been able to successfully push mine into fast ram without an error  (yellow, red or blue startup screen).  Tried using FAST, 32BIT, and EXT with no luck.

I am using a microbotics XA1230 board with 64mb of ram. I've tried just about everything and the only way I can make it boot is if I skick the rom image into chip ram (which probably makes it even slower).

If you have the original Kickstart images you might be able to use BlizKick to copy them into fast RAM.  Probably not though, since it supports Phase 5 and Apollo cards mainly.

The 1230XA should have native maprom functionality.  Did the accelerator come with a utility to do this?  (Or, it may be part of the setxa program...)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

BlizKick does not support Apollo cards.

Microbotics's MBX1230xa have the "autoxa" utility to relocate the ROM in FastRAM. Simply toss the icon in the wbstartup drawer.

Or create a very early line in the startup-sequence.

If you go in trouble with the program, it signifies you had set the memory too fast in "setxa" (the program who save the board settings in the board's eeprom).

Example: if you have a 16Mb SIMM, 70ns, do not try to set it to 60ns!
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
