A-500 Stuff...
« on: June 26, 2003, 02:49:25 PM »
I am looking to buy some stuff for my A500. I want to connect a hard drive, a cd rom, and some extra ram. If I also find an accelerator it will be more than nice. Do you know any shop shipping to Europe such things? I am also searching in ebay, but these things are very hard to find...  :-?

Really?  There's usually loads of Amiga stuff floating round.  There are quite a lot of European shops, such as Eyetech and Power Computing in the UK, and KDH in Germany.  A lot of the stuff there probably won't work with the A500 though - most is A1200/A4000.

What do you want to use it for?  For serious work, the A1200 could be a lot better.  It's got on-board IDE, so a hard drive is easy to fit.  A little adaptor board could connect an IDE CD-ROM, or you could attatch a SCSI adaptor to the PCMCIA slot.  Accelerators are also common.  AGA is also a lot nicer than OCS.

Otherwise, I'm sure that there'll be helpful people here with A500 stuff :-)

I am located in Greece. I am interested primarily for a cd rom for the A-500. I wouldn't exchange anything, I just want to buy. I bought from ebay today a Rochard Ide/SCSI Controller which can accept up to 8 MB ram with 30 pin 1MB simms. Can I connect a cd rom drive to this ide controller?  :-D

A good product to get is the Viper 520 which has all the extra expansion features you need.

Yes, you should be able to use any PC style IDE devices...
I much prefer SCSI though!

@bon

Have you tried out the Big Book of Amiga Hardware website? They have a TON of information about anything Amiga.

Check out the Amiga 500 section for your needs. :-D

I've been looking for a decent accelerator for my A500 for ages. I'd love to have one of the Viper 520s or better yet the 530s, but they seem to be like gold dust. Accelerators in general seem to go for ridiculous prices - you'd be looking at at least 50GBP (about 75 Euro) for an 030 like GVPs A530 :-o

We should get a consortium together to ask DCE to do another run of the Viper 530. I'd definitely buy one. or two!
I like Amigas

Hell I'd buy a new 530...I don't really care for
the giant side expansions.

Bon, you may want to keep an eye on Ebay, or
perhaps try some of the more obscure Euro
dealers. I looked about a month ago but nobody
seems to stock the Vipers anymore.
