Connection a1200 to Pee See via SERIAL.

Hey people, is this possible? My amiga has a serial port convertor on the back, so its now the standard PC size serial socket..

Can i connect my amiga to my pc via serial?

Any advice is appriciated :-)

Also, i have no cable :-P but i can make one with the right guide :-)

Yeaaahhh!!!

I had transferred up to 4GB of data from my 1200customT to my peeeceeeeee, for a backup!!!

(in a week!!! GULP!)

i've found the schematics in aminet too, and a little sw.. =)

Would it be possible to go online via this serial port? Or not... My Pee See has cable modem.

Also.. what about the serial converter? I guess i can just use a serial - serial cable then.

Yes, it should be possible using Internet Connection Sharing on the PC.  There's documentation on how to set it up, but I don't remember where I saw it.  You need a "null modem" cable (DTE to DTE) to do this sort of thing, not a standard serial port to modem (DTE to DCE) cable.

Null modem... that goes from PC serial to Amiga serial right? Nothing to do with actual "modems"..

Or am i wrong?

You can go online using the Amiga's own serial port.  All you will need is a TCP/IP stack which will be either Genesis, which is to be found on the OS3.9 CD or Miami which you may struggle to find a registered version of.

You should find that the software has the appropriate modem drivers.

In the long term, you might want to consider a serial port expansion (Silver Surfer, Twister, Port Jnr) as the bog standard Amiga serial port is driven by the Paula chip (sound chip) which tends to run out of horespower quite quickly.

why not get a PCMCIA Ethernet adapter, it is faster. or are   the PCMCIA port alredy in use  :-?
