The publisher of the aminet cds stated that:
"in this time of the fast evolving internet world, we have decided to stop making aminet cds"

...or something like it, can't remember.

I did not like this,
because I love aminet,
but I have dialup, and no time or money to dl all the files.

This is why I want to see if anyone else would like the cds back in sale.

The price of the cd is much lower than if I was to dl all the files on my 56k modem.

The aminet cds is one of the favourite things I like about amiga, so I will be sad if they stop it forever.

As a compromise idea, the cd could be cleared from all the lists and guides that take up space on the cd, so that it can be more crammed with the wonders of the amiga community instead.
This idea of cramming more on the cds would make time between the cds longer, so the cd will be more attractive also, and we get more for the money.

thoughts?..

if you intend to reply; "I have ethernet, so... "
then pls don't.

If you somehow feel with me,
then help me make it clear to anyone willing to make future aminet cds.

There is hardly any new software being developed this days, so what should they put on this cds??
Amiga community is now so small that they cannot make profit enough to produce this cds, also most of current users now have access to broadband...

But i agree.. nice to have those cds around.. but i dont think aminet can keep up with this.  :-(

I have ethernet......no just kidding. :-D

I'm on dial-up too, but I find there not to be many problem downloading stuff off of aminet beacuse most of the stuff isn't that huge.  I'm just an occasional user though, I'll only turn to aminet when looking for something specific.

Don't they have flat rate ISP services in Norway?  Here you pay £xx per month and get xxx hours access to the internet without having to pay phone charges. For less than £20 there are loads of ISPs that will give unlimited free access to the internet.

I think Aminet is having problems in this day and age.  Contributions are drying up as people have left the platform in droves and many people now have thier own download pages for thier software.  It probably isn't financially feasable to produce the CDs anymore.  Which is sad, and an end to an era. :-(

I dont think its worth it anymore making Aminet CD's. In a way, AminetCD's are a thing of yesterday, when A1200 users didnt want to upgrade and sent letters to Amiga Format asking if its a good idea to get a CD drive.

But I think Aminet will live on. I have been thinking of downloading the full Aminet archive which is about 20+ gig I think.

You must know someone who has a broadband connection and who is willing to download it.

I was very unhappy with the decision to stop aminet-cds. I got the CDs from that aminet-abo-club.  Maybe the number of uploads is decreasing, but do think one reason is the stop of Aminet-CDs! I am more in hurry in programmin/painting/releasing whatever if I have a certain deadline -> the release of a new Aminet-CD! This motivation is lost now IMHO. I wish we could get new Aminet-CDs from time to time. I have DSL but nevertheless the CDs are necessary. For instance an author can deceide to remove a program from Aminet (Just upload a "dummy" update to a older version. Or a new version introduces incidentally an error. If the author does not fix that error (maybe he left the Amiga with this final update), the older (in this case better versions are no longer accessible. And think of longer mpeg movies from 3d artists or from important events... I can simple put the Aminet CDs into my DVD-player and watch the movies, without Aminet CDs this cool feature is lost.

I want new Aminet-CDs, with all stuff as they had before. If there is not enoufg suff uploaded maybe the time between  new CDs can be enlarged. Every 4 month? Or two per year?

kind regards selco, http://selco.da.ru

I subscribed to the Aminet CDs via weird science, and so have every CD from 22 to the end, however, since getting broadband, i found them less and less useful, so while it would be nice to have them, I don't really miss them.

The only thing I want, is that someone can continue it by filling up a cd with recent uploads, then when its full, it gets released.

very simple.

not "release a cd EVERY month" or something like that.

The friendly firm could also JUST release a cd box of 4.

PS: if aminet is dying,
then why is there still a lot of uploads?...
Besides, I would kill myself if aminet itself died.
